When we bought our house, Anel knew right away that he wanted to turn a portion of the furnished basement into a man cave. This would be his space in the house, a space where he could watch a game, kick back, and relax. It turned out to be such a cozy room that we end up watching movies here together fairly often… Although I’m no man!
Because it has turned into a more common area, we tried to create a space that feels manly but not in a bachelor-pad kind of way.
We built the room around this LoveSac Sactional in navy suede that is slightly over the top but in just the right way. What’s cool about this couch is that we can keep adding sections to it if we ever move it to a bigger space. I moved our old sisal rug (still available) from our New York apartment to this space because it’s simple and masculine while looking grown up, tying the space together. Boots loves to lay on it at night when we’re watching TV.
Anel wanted shelves to display some of his favorite things so we picked up these from Ikea and filled them with books and cool androgynous pieces from Pottery Barn like a piece of petrified coral and a decanter with matching glasses for scotch. We love to cozy up in blankets but I hate the way they look when draped everywhere so this braided basket did the trick to fit them and add a perfectly preppy touch to the space.
The most exciting piece in the room is the giant American flag that hangs on the wall. My uncle was the Ambassador to Pakistan for many years and this flag flew above the American Embassy while he was there. He gave it to Anel as a gift and our amazing friends at Framebridge framed it for us. How awesome does it look? I don’t think you can tell from the pictures how big it is… Literally an 18-wheeler had to deliver it!
