Classic Pecan Pie With a Twist

Every year, my aunt makes her famous pecan pie for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I finally took a stab at it last year and made it mine it with a few small tweaks this year for the holidays (substituted dark chocolate for milk chocolate chips, cut down on the sugar and syrup). The dark chocolate chips add an extra dimension of flavor that make this pie a hit with every person who eats it. I had a great time (pre-flu!) baking two of these pies with my mom and sister for the holidays. Here are some photos of the process and the full recipe below that!

Ingredients:
-3/4 cup dark karo syrup
-3/4 cup organic cane sugar
-1 tspn vanilla extract
-2 eggs
-2 cups chopped pecans
-1 cup dark chocolate chips (optional but highly recommended!)
-1 pre-packaged pie-crust (I used Pillsbury) unless you’re brave enough to make your own

Directions:
-Pre-heat oven to 350
-Mix first 5 ingredients together in a bowl
-Add chopped pecans and mix
-Add chocolate chips if desired
-Press pie crust into a round pyrex dish
-If you’re into aesthetics, press a fork into the crust evenly around the edges (see photo)
-Pour into pie crust
-Bake in oven on middle rack for 1 hour
-Let cool for at least 20 minutes
-Enjoy!
