Fun with Airplane Food

Sorry for my lack of posts last week! I was busy indulging myself in a week-long vacation in Martha’s Vineyard and Southern California. I have many insights to come as soon as I settle back in at home. In the meantime, I’ll leave you with this “juicy” tidbit.

Our beach-hopping holiday involved four flights and lots of potential for disgusting airplane food. Not if I had anything to do with it! During our first cross-country ride, I came up with my favorite new airplane drink (in addition to the standard gallon of water that I sip on over the hours to prevent dehydration).

I ordered apple juice, seltzer water, and a glass of ice. I mixed 3/4 seltzer and 1/4 apple juice for a sweet treat. This can be done at home with healthier versions of any fruit juice. I like 100% cranberry or pomegranate juice which on its own is tart and intense, but mixed with seltzer water is a pink and sparkly delight! It provides a ton of antioxidants while looking pretty all at the same time. This is also a great mocktail to order at a bar if you’re not drinking.

The second half of my airplane snack is trail mix. Pictured above is pre-bought from Trader Joe’s but generally I make my own using:
– Cashews
– Almonds
– Dried goji berries
– Raw cacao nibs
– shredded coconut
With this concoction, you get 3 superfoods in just one small handful of your snack. It is sweet, savory, and great to keep on hand whether you’re travelling or not. If you don’t have time to make your own, I suggest buying one without chocolate chips because all of that sugar can add up.
