IDK about you but I am so ready for this winter to be over and spring to get a move on. I made the most grave parenting mistake ever last year and spoke out loud *gasp* about how Amalia never gets sick anymore because she was a daycare baby. I know I know, so stupid. She just recovered from a brutal flu that took her down for 8 days. I’m currently on day 9 myself and finally feeling human again.
I left the house today for the first time in almost two weeks, it felt like Christmas morning and my birthday all rolled into one!
WHAT I’M READING & WATCHING
Reading/Read –
Middletide by Sarah Crouch: I impulse purchased this book at Barnes & Noble because it was their pick of the month and loved it! Elijah moves back to his late father’s small cabin in Washington State after failing as a writer in San Francisco. He quickly becomes embroiled in the potential murder of the town’s beautiful local doctor, Erin, who is found dead on his property. It gave similar vibes to Where the Crawdads Sing with the main character being mostly a recluse in the woods, surviving off the land. While there is murder in the book I’d say it’s more about Elijah’s story, a love story, and is more murder adjacent.
The Drowning Woman by Robyn Harding: My neighbor brought this book over when I was sick and I picked it up last night and am already almost finished. It is a fun page-turner of a thriller that I can’t seem to put down! Lee, a newly homeless woman who had to leave New York after the pandemic destroyed her her restaurant business, saves Hazel, a rich housewife, from drowning. They start up an unlikely friendship and very quickly you realize that not everything is as it seems. I thought it was super predictable at first but there were many twists and I didn’t see them all coming. A quick and fun thriller if you’re in the market for one.
Watching –
Running Point (Netflix): I thought this new Kate Hudson show (written by Mindy Kaling) was super cute, funny, and a perfect palate cleanser between the murder docs I usually watch. Hudson’s character, Isla Gordon, becomes the president of her family’s fictional NBA team, the LA Waves, after her brother goes to rehab. She and her brothers have to work together to get their flailing team back on track. Her outfits are fab, the characters are oddly lovable, and it’s a sweet, easy watch.
Severance S2 (Apple+): So weird, so good. Where to even start?
The White Lotus S3 (Max): I’ve heard a lot of people say that this season is too slow for them but I feel like the build up is part of the whole appeal of it. I’m loving to hate the friendship trio and the southern family. They’re all so awful and fun to watch. Per always with The White Lotus, I have no idea whodunit and can’t wait to find out.
RANDOM THINGS I’M LOVING
1. Wide Leg Pants: My MO for my 40s is comfort over style always. So when I find something that is as cute as it is comfy, it’s going straight in the cart. Enter these atheltic-like pants that look like chic trousers. I wore them with a black bodysuit for a city dinner two weeks ago and they were perfect.
2. LolaVie Leave-In Conditioner: My hair is always thirsting for hydration after years of bleaching it. Jennifer Aniston’s brand makes a leave-in conditioner that also acts as a heat protector. I’ve noticed a big difference in the softness of my hair since using it.
3. $30 Sculpting Bodysuit: I ordered this viral bodysuit after seeing lots of people talk about it online. It arrived and looked like dolls clothing, it was so tiny. I laughed out loud and assumed I’d never be able to pull it on and if I did, it would be wildly uncomfortable. No one was more shocked to find that it fit AND was comfy enough to wear all day long. It also did a great job of sculpting, per it’s name. The price is right too!
4.Sleep Crown Pillow: Hear my out on this one. Another influencer I follow always talks about her Sleep Crown pillow and how it has changed her sleep. I was always curious but the price felt high for a pillow that you… put over your face? Then I had the opportunity to add it to my Flagship shop and knew I had to try it for myself if I was going to sell it there. And let me tell you I am SOLD. I only have the travel-sized version and now cannot imagine how I ever slept a night without this super soft, cuddly, comforting, amazing thing. It blocks light and noise and makes me feel like I’m sleeping in a hug!
5. Puzzlefolk Puzzles (20% off): I’ve been working with my therapist to find activities that can get me out of my head when I have anxiety, but are not on a screen. Enter puzzles, my current hyper fixation. I just finished this one and have this one on the way to do next! When they’re cute like these, it makes them that much more fun.
