Anel and I were in dire need of a trip together. Alone. Although we spend a lot of time together, it’s often working on his business or mine or taking care of the dog or working on some project for the house. We realized it had been months since we just relaxed and enjoyed each other’s company… Something that is very important in a marriage.
We dropped the pup at Wagmore (the best ever doggy daycare in Stamford if you live in the area!) and drove an hour north to Washington, CT for two nights at The Mayflower Grace, a hotel and spa that has been on our bucket list for quite some time now. Although it wasn’t a tropical vacation, it had the same effect. We came home relaxed, happy, and feeling healthier and more connected than when we left.
When we checked in, we were greeted with a glass of prosecco (ok, fine) and a quick drive over to our room which was in a small building right next to the spa (score!). I walked right into my dream home- All blue and white and perfect. We sipped our prosecco by the fire in our room while deciding how we should spend the weekend. There were spa treatments, Pilates and yoga classes, fencing (?), hikes, and so much more.
In the end, we skipped all of the classes and opted to spend most of our time reading in the spa’s great room which had 20 foot glass ceilings and a row of bed/chairs facing the view. I read almost all of Fates and Furies (highly recommend in that very spot. On Saturday we did a two-hour hike at Steep Rock and vowed to come back with the dog soon.
We ate so much good food over the weekend (randomly) too. We had one of the best meals we’d had in months at Community Table, a farm to table cozy restaurant, and a crazy amazing sushi experience at Norimaki, a gem hidden in the ‘burbs.
Overall: Great weekend with some much needed relaxation as a couple. I can’t recommend The Mayflower Grace enough!
