Basement Playroom

When we moved into our house (over 5 years ago now!), we finished the basement, assuming that it would one day be a space where our kids could hang out together and/or with friends. At that time, Amalia was only two so going down there alone wasn’t really an option. Now that the kids are 4 and (almost) 8, they’re ok to play without me in the same room.

But we were finding that they wouldn’t really spend a lot of time in the basement, despite the fact that most of their toys were down there. It was kind of a mess and not a very inviting space. It was also cramped because we had put up a wall to create a makeshift mudroom.

A few months ago, we decided to make some changes that wouldn’t break the bank to make our basement playroom cozier, more organized, and more fun.

It started with knocking down the wall and closing up our mudroom “cubbies” for toy storage and spiraled from there. I added peel and stick wallpaper, a console from IKEA (it’s so nice IRL!), a Ruggable rug, and some throw pillows. Everything else we already had

Since we finished a few weeks back, the kids will spend long stretches of time before school and on the weekends playing in the space.

And when friends come over, they have a place to take them to play make believe, do art, or create LEGO structures. It has been so amazing!
