Formal Living Room

Blue and White Living Room

Rug + Pillows c/o Lulu & Georgia

One of the first things people say when they come into our house is, ‘why do you have so many living rooms’? The answer is, we have one formal living room (formal-ish), a sun room for morning coffee and puppy snuggles, and then Anel’s man cave in the furnished basement which has turned into the place where we watch movies or TV together because it’s just so cozy.

Although this space isn’t actually all that formal, it is compared to the the rest of the house. Growing up, we had a formal living room where my parents entertained and us kids rarely entered. There’s something about the idea of a space like that, that makes me feel grown up. The next step is to finally host a wine night for my girlfriends in a few weeks.

I wanted the formal living room decor in this room to feel coastal yet comfortable, formal yet cozy, and with the help of Shelby at The Havenly, I think we accomplished exactly that with the formal living room decor and layout!

I knew that I had to have this rug from Lulu & Georgia and Shelby planned around that perfectly. We have a matching rug in the other half of this room (not pictured) under our dining room table. It’s the best rug I own hands down because it’s jute, my favorite, but it’s also super soft on the feet. Boots loves to lay on it and I love walking around with bare feet and feeling softness instead of scratchiness.

So take a tour of the space below and let me know what you think! I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. Scroll down for all product details.

I love the way your living room turned out and after following your blog for quite awhile, I like your taste in home styling a lot! I live in Massachusetts so I feel like how you style your home is more relevant to me than someone living on the west coast. Also want to say that I like how you have a formal living room in your house, I had that growing up as well but I feel like younger people are buying homes and do not care about having a formal living and dining room! Glad to see your keeping that alive!

Love your chic yet cozy set up! We also have a formal living room where my kids know is off limits. But they have a playroom plus a family room so I don’t feel too bad! Love all the pops of blue and the palm pillows and that bar cart is so pretty!

Love it! A few quick thoughts – would you consider adding a smaller formal bookshelf or a few small prints to the wall behind the two matching chairs? My aunt made her apartment more formal by adding tall gold candlesticks, faux flowers, and hanging up some antique prints.

Love it! We have a formal living room and I got to start from nothing. It has been so fun to build a formal living space. It really does make you feel like more of an adult.

Love all the colors you chose! Glad to hear this jute rug is soft, I am on the hunt for one!

Absolutely love the space and have been so curious about this type of service — I have a few rooms about 60 percent there but need help pulling them together. Maybe this is the answer! Thanks.

Love, love! Only thing I would say is the two big prints on the couch pillows are a little too busy. Keeping it to one large and one small or one large and one solid, would be a little more pleasing to the eye. Still, one wonderful space!

The living room and a person’s own room looks beautiful if there will be a new sofa sets. In a room, a sleeper sofa looks amazing that can be easily fold while not in use. And in living room the sectional sofas sets looks amazing that come in different designs and layouts. Visit our site for more sofas sets at http://sectionalsofasstore.com/
