Our Hanging Chair

When we first looked at our house, one of the things we loved most about it was the little quirks and corners that didn’t fully make sense at first glance… like this teeny tiny screened porch off of our living room. We went back and forth on what to do with it because it can’t fit all that much. I wanted to fill it with a round table with chairs for family dinners and activities with Amalia, but Anel kept pushing for a hanging chair.

Usually, I win our decor-related arguments but he convinced me of installing a hanging chair after painting a picture of us lazily sitting on it reading books on a sunny afternoon or having cocktails together after Amalia went to bed. That sounded pretty great, but if we put in a swing big enough for all three of us, it would take up most of the porch.

Ultimately I decided that it would be worth it and I’m so glad that I did because since we installed this double hanging rattan chair (currently 20% off!), we have spent hours sitting, drawing, reading, drinking tea, drinking wine, and snuggling on it. Our screened porch has quickly become a favorite spot for all of us.

The swing takes up most of the porch but now that it’s there I can’t imagine using this space in any other way. We covered it in cozy pillows like this giant blue textured one and this striped pillow.

When we put it all together, it is the perfect mix of polished and relaxed, exactly what we’re aiming for in our new home. Although the floor in here is generally covered in books and toys which makes me realize we need to add a basket for kid stuff.

I asked Amalia what she liked about the hanging chair for this post and this was her answer, word for word: “I like to color on the swing with mommy. I like to hug mommy too on the swing. I like to read with daddy and give him a kiss. Bootsie doesn’t fit on the swing”

Yep, that’s my kid! Knows how to melt my heart each and every day. PS the single version of this chair would be so cute in the corner of a kid’s room as a reading swing.

The hanging chair is part of Serena & Lily’s natural seating collection that I am absolutely in love with. I could fill my house with these chairs and never grow tired of them. I have my eye on this armchair for our bedroom and would love to add two of these to our living room. Swoon!

We don’t really have any plans for this room beyond what’s in it as of now. We’ll probably add some art to the walls whenever we see something that will work and we might add a side table or two. But for this summer, it’s absolutely perfect.

I tried to buy this today but the 20% off code ATHOME didn’t work. When I called I was told to sign up for the 15% off discount by giving them my email.
