Have you ever seen the SNL skit about Xanax for gay summer weddings? It’s all about how gay weddings are so perfect that they make you depressed. Well my best friend Eric got married this weekend on the Cape and it was literally one of the most perfect wedding weekends I’ve ever been to. No Xanax necessary, however. It was all smiles!
They kicked off the weekend with a good old New England clam bake on Herring Cove Beach in Provincetown where they summer. We arrived expecting a BBQ on the beach but this was so much more than that. Lobster, clams, corn bread, and all the usual sides were served al fresco as the sun was setting over the sparkling ocean. During the last few moments of the stunning sunset, we all grabbed a blanket (tied in striped grosgrain ribbon, naturally) and headed down to the sand for a bonfire, beers, and s’mores.
The setting was so beautiful and everything was executed flawlessly. The only problem was that once the sun went down it was freezing cold! I layered a monogrammed cashmere sweater over my gingham oxford and then threw on a navy quilted vest last minute to stay warm in the surprisingly chilly temps.
When my college friends and I are together, the first night is the most fun. We get to do a big catch up but it always seems like we pick up right where we left off. So many exciting things are happening to all of them, it’s been amazing to watch us all grow over the last 10 years (man that makes me sound old!). It’s so funny to reminisce about how a Friday night would have been when we were all 20 (shots, dancing, up all night) versus today at 30 (2 beers, in bed by 11pm).
