Derby Day

Spring Dress

Kate Spade dress c/o Rent the Runway, Bauble Bar necklace, Claire V clutch (borrowed from Hitha), c/o Three Jane pineapple earrings, Karen Walker sunnies

I’m a terrible gambler. When it comes to picking horses, I usually go by the jockey’s outfit or my “gut reaction” which so far has gotten me a total of zero Kentucky Derby wins. My husband’s picks have won 2 years in a row. Go figure. The Derby isn’t about the betting though, or even the horses.

It usually marks one of the first warm weekends in spring and it’s a great excuse to get all dolled up which is something that I rarely do. This year, Anel and I boarded the train with many other Derby-goers flounced in bow ties and Lily Pulitzer to spend the day in the city. It was fabulous people watching on the train that day for the outfits alone!

I chose this pretty floral Kate Spade frock that Rent the Runway was kind enough to let me borrow for a few days. I’d never actually used RTR but now I’ll never look back. They sent 2 sizes of the dress so I could try it on for size and I was able to keep it for 4 days. To ship it back, I just dropped the pre-addressed envelope in the mail and it was good to go. How easy is that?

Summer wedding season just got a whole lot easier. . . In other news, apparently I only had one pose in this look.  How did you celebrate Derby this year?

Where was your hat? I was born and bred in Louisville, KY and it’s not a Derby outfit without a hat!

  6. Adorable dress! I went pretty casual this year because I went to a baseball game first, but it was so fun seeing everyone else’s outfits.
