Vineyard Vines Maxi Dress

Vineyard Vines Maxi Dress

Getting dressed every morning is becoming more and more of a challenge. I am excited for spring and summer clothes so I can just wear maxi dresses every day! Before our trip, I picked up this cute one from Vineyard Vines, but I think I only have a few more wears in it before it goes on hold for a while. And I even sized up! It’s amazing how quickly my body is changing. If you scroll down, you can really see that bump.

I have my eye on a few others for my trip to Charleston in a few weeks. All of these are great for maternity and non-maternity. This simple flowy maxi dress comes in 14 colors and sells for under $100. I might pick up more than one, because it seems like something I’ll be able to wear even when I’m in my third trimester. This pretty floral Ella Moss dress will be perfect and forgiving for dinner with my girlfriends in Charleston. A beachy off-shoulder maxiย would make a great cover up, or works for a day of sight-seeing. The simplicity of this $68 cotton dress (comes in blue and black) makes me so happy. I have a feeling it will be a go-to for me starting very soon!

When we were shooting these pics, I saw an ice cream shop that looked incredible, so we stopped in for a cone before dinner. YOLO! It was incredible and so worth it. Luckily with my incredible hulk appetite, I ate a full meal an hour later with no problem.

Ok now I need your help! I’m so torn about how much maternity/pregnancy content to post here. While I don’t want to be a full on mommy blog, having this baby is now a huge part of my life, and I want to share that with you without being overbearing. So, if you have a second, let me know:

  1. How often do you want to see maternity content on Lemon Stripes?
  2. What kind of maternity content are you interested in seeing? Outfit ideas? Lifestyle tips? Recipes?

As often as you’d like to post!! 2x per week maybe? Most interested in pregnancy lifestyle tips (health, nutrition, etc) rather than maternity fashion posts. Of course excited to see how you decorate the nursery too!

I’ve been reading blogs for years and have always loved blogs that correlate to what’s going on in my own life….wedding planning, honeymoon posts, entertaining, home decor posts, fashion, makeup, skincare, recipes ect..were among my favorite. But now that I’m expecting myself I’ve been going to your site first thing every morning (which I did anyway!) and eagerly anticipating a pregnancy update, fashion ideas (I need help with that!), nursery updates, what are you eating while pregnant, your workouts, so basically anything and everything pregnancy related. It’s also been especially nice to read those posts bc I have followed along on your fertility journey. Overall I think you should post as much as you like & want, but baby is a huge part of your life so readers should understand if you incorporate pregnancy posts now. I’m so happy for you and Anel and love the content!

I’m interested in seeing general updates on how the baby is doing and outfit posts on actual maternity wear not just “sized up”. I’m a Mom and I DO want to see actual Mommy posts once the baby is here. I also would love to have another child and had an extremely hard time finding cute and affordable maternity clothes so that’s why I say I’d like to see posts on actual maternity wear. These are just my thoughts. Love your blog so just do what feels right for you. Also, if you plan to breastfeed, my piece of advice (oh boy do I want to tell you a million things on that but I’m trying to keep it to 1 piece of advice/keep it blog related) is GET YOURSELF PLENTY OF NURSING FRIENDLY CLOTHES. My son is 15 months and I breastfeed him still (he never had formula) and GIRL I am telling you I am SO SICK of always needing to wear something that has easy boob access! So, if you breastfeed I would LOVE a post on your breastfeeding friendly clothes. And now that I am thinking of adding another baby to our family it’s like….uhh….am I going from maternity wear to ANOTHER year plus of breastfeeding friendly clothes? Lord help me I just want to dress how I want to dress! Dresses are almost out of the question and I LOVED and almost exclusively wore dresses before he was born but you can’t just unzip yourself and have a half flopped on dress as you are nursing a baby in public lol.

Yeah I am not close to motherhood so maternity posts aren’t relevant for me. I totally get this is your blog and about your life so I think you need to write about what works for you. I think you’re great and I like your perspective; however, to be honest if there was more than one post per week I would probably stop reading.

Not to drone on forever but another thing that bugs me, which I see on other blogs, is when a person feels a need to reference their life situation in every post. Meaning even if it isn’t a maternity post someone has to mention “since I am pregnant now” or people who can never reference doing something without mentioning that they did it with their boyfriend or husband. There comes a time when as a reader I’m like yeah…I know, then I start to skip posts. Thank you so much for asking!

Brooke, this is SO helpful thank you! I think I’m going to try and stick to one maternity post per week going forward (with some exceptions of course), and keep the prego references in between to a minimum.

I remember feeling the same way when some of my favorite bloggers got pregnant years ago, which is why I asked in the first place!

          Thanks again!!

Hi Julia! Congrats again on your exciting news! I’ve been reading your blog for over 2 years and lately, it’s been the first blog I check on my blog roll. I love your content and how real you are. I appreciate your honesty and I think you should post whenever and whatever you want – it’s your blog! My husband and have been talking about pregnancy lately, so for me, I’m interested in your whole journey….how you’re feeling, what you’re nervous/excited about, how your life is transitioning, maternity style, etc. I’m also especially interested in nutrition and how you’re adapting that now that you’re pregnant. Best of luck!!

Hi Julia! I’m also pregnant so I love everything you write about maternity – definitely can’t wait to hear your take on the clothes. (I’m a corporate lawyer so I’ve been wearing a LOT of dresses from Seraphine and Isabella Oliver, and I had a super hard time finding a good pair of black work pants that were not leggings and not cropped, northeast winters are too cold for cropped pants!! I settled for a pair from Gap but I don’t love them). Just do what feels right because your honesty is so refreshing, and I enjoy 99% of what you post regardless of the content. Enjoy and best wishes ๐Ÿ™‚ ~ Elizabeth

Hi Julia, as I am much more far ahead of you in the motherhood game (my kids are 7,5 and 2) I reckon one pregnancy related post a week would be a good compromise (one out of the 3 you tend to post each week). Of course I am delighted for you and want to know how you are progressing but since I am so much into motherhood already, I enjoy reading blogs as a distraction from my daily life. This is obviously just a suggestion and only my personal opinion. Thanks for asking us anyway. Julie xx

As someone who read your blog before I got pregnant and now is pregnant, I’m thrilled to be on this journey to motherhood with you. While I understand some readers’ request to post as little as possible, that will soon become an unrealistic request, particularly when you get to your third trimester. This is your journey and your blog! Don’t apologize or hide where you are in life! Your best and most authentic content is what is relevant to you, now. As a fellow pregnant lady, I would really love some posts on nutrition- because I am really struggling to find meaningful info on how to make healthy meals while pregnant. And of course pregnancy fashion, nursery ideas, and strollers? If those content ideas arepregnancy overload for your blog, any references to mommy blogs you routinely visit would be helpful too.
