If there was ever a wall made for me, this is it. Thank goodness it now exists mere minutes from my house! And thank goodness for my friend Elaine, who painted it on the side of her brand new store, Kirby Girl which opens today. For local readers, it’s in Darien, right behind the Sugar Bowl. But it feels like you’re in Palm Springs… or Palm Beach… when you happen upon this happy little space.
I love being friends with mom-preneurs because they inspire me to hustle and remind me that you really can do it all, if you put your mind to it and make smart decisions. Elaine is a mom to two beautiful girls and manages to run now two very busy retail stores at the same time.
She always has a smile on her face and I’ve never heard her complain or utter a negative word about another person in the two years that I’ve known her. We need more Elaines in the world!
Anyway, I shot these photos at her store on Tuesday when it was 75 and sunny and it just felt so good. I was so happy in this moment as you can probably see from my giant smile. There’s something about those first few sunny hot days in spring in New England that almost makes the brutal winters worth it… almost.
The other thing that makes the winters worth it? The excitement that I get from pulling out my sundresses. I’ve had this one hanging in my closet for a few weeks and Tuesday was the perfect day to break it out for it’s first spin around the striped block. It’s from 1901, a new brand I shared a couple of months ago here.
So far, everything that I have from them, I love. It’s all very simple, preppy and comfortable. This dress is one of my favorites, though, because it has so much fun movement! When you walk down the street, it feels like you’re walking down a runway with the skirt trailing haha.
Two other important things to note here: 1. My sunglasses that I wear everyday are on sale and they never go on sale. 2. Baublebar just started making monogrammed totes and obviously I love them. I accidentally put in my initials the wrong way but the bag is still cute! #bloggerfail
Side note: People always ask me why I don’t wear more yellow given the name of my blog. My answer is always that I think yellow looks bad with my super blonde hair but now that I’m seeing my hair in front of this wall, I might change my tune and try to wear it more. Any blondes out there have tips about how to wear yellow?
