Red Flats

J.Crew Red Coat

I realize that blue stripes and white jeans are not exactly appropriate for January, but yesterday the sun came out, it was 50 degrees (practically tropical around here!), and I felt so excited to feel sunshine on my face and soak up some vitamin D. I suffer from mild seasonal depression, and at some point every winter decide I want to move to California. Then days like yesterday come around and I fall back in love with Connecticut again. Anyway, it was one of those days and I was in a summery mindset, so I wore a summery outfit. Winter white is a thing though, right?

I was also feeling extra high on life because Anel and I are back on our usual, clean, healthy diet, and the lethargy I felt with all of the extra gluten and sugars that the holiday season inevitably brings, is dissipating. For those of you asking on my Snapchat, this is the detox lentil soup I made for dinner last night, and it was insanely good! I added some extra salt, but for the most part stuck to the recipe. If you have a slow cooker, I highly recommend this recipe. It’s full of veggies and full of flavor. I bought most of the ingredients pre-chopped (don’t judge me!) which made it super quick.

Ok on to my happy little outfit now. When I got these red flats earlier in the week, my mind went straight from holiday reds to nautical summer reds. Clearly someone needs a warm-weather vacation! Not to worry, I have two coming up so stay tuned. The flats are from what has become my all time favorite shoe company, M.Gemi, which is having a major sale this week. I have The Fortuna in a few other colors, but right now it’s on sale in red, blue, and green. Is it awful that I want all three? Don’t worry Anel, I won’t do it!

Also on my list is The Petalo (a sparkly loafer), another pair of The Brezza (I already have them in blush), and The Proprio in hot pink of course (a classic pump that comes in many colors).

In other news, my red coat that so many of you have been asking about is still sold out, but J.Crew Factory made an almost identical one that is still available in a bunch of sizes. Hurry, it’s selling out quickly too!

Go for red Julia (my favourite colour). It’s such a happy, bright colour. I have decided to add red to my outfit any time I can which is starting by a nice new NARS lipstick I got this Christmas. It is a soft (not to intense…I am a mum of 3…) red but really makes me feel happy and feminine. I love the outfit you feature in this post and your little red bag is so cute! It feels good to return to healthy food after the indulgence, I was so bloated after Christmas…Have a good rest of the week! Hugs from London, Julie

That soup looks amazing, thanks for sharing! I’ve almost lost a finger to a Butternut Squash chopping incident, so definitely no pre-chopped judgement here! 🙂

That sounds terrifying! And makes me feel better about my pre-chopped decision!

As soon as January rolls around all reds change from holiday to summer! I am loving red right now and love that you paired it with summery colours. The sunshine will be here soon enough! xx Rox-Anne, Celebratingthislife.ca

Connecticut winters can take a toll on you, having several days of cold and grey, to wake up with sunshine beaming through your window can feel like a miracle. No reason not to bring out the white jeans and stripes and embrace the prep.

I LOVE my white jeans and refuse to only wear them during the summer! Most of the summer it’s too warm to wear white jeans anyways! So I love this look! And agreed, the cold can REALLY get me down, but sadly NYC is the warmest place I’ve ever lived (Chicago, Syracuse!) so I honestly don’t mind the 30-something days. It’s when it gets into the 20’s and 10’s that I’m really dying!! Hahah.

Yay! So glad I’m not the only one. I hear you about the 20’s and 10’s. I grew up in New Hampshire so got used to those for a while but now I have zero patience when it’s that cold!
