Topsiders Making a Comeback

Well they are in my life anyway…

Last summer on Martha’s Vineyard, my sister Lauren and I were influenced by the preppified island to buy new pairs of Sperry’s topsiders- mine in camel and hers dark brown, a difficult decision, especially given the fact that when one sister chooses a certain color, the other immediately wants it as well. We joked about the New England-ness of our purchase but were secretly obsessed. We wore them during our vacation (see above photo) and then placed them in the back of our closets upon our return to our other favorite island, Manhattan, replacing them with heaps of flat leather boots and converse sneakers for fall.

This summer, as we see boat shoes making a comeback in all kinds of crazy colors, like Jcrew’s metallic gold pair (above, although I prefer classic), we’ve both seperately started rocking them on a weekly basis. She inspired me to start wearing my boat shoes with dresses which makes for a chic, casual, and comfortable ensemble. They also make a good substitute for boring old flip flops with a pair of shorts and a straw fedora for a summer barbeque.

Oh the possibilities…
