I’m leaving for Turks & Caicos two weeks from today. Thank God because this winter is driving me up the biggest wall ever (think Game of Thrones) and I feel like I’m going to explode if I don’t get some sun on this skin like ASAP.
Last March, I wrote a post about how to pack the perfect carry on that, to this day, is still my most highly read blog post of all time. This year, I thought I’d create another travel tutorial: How to travel from cold to hot weather which is always a challenge for me.
Obviously it will be freezing in New York the day we leave so I’ll have to cover up for the way out but I don’t want to carry a heavy coat with me during the whole trip. Instead, I opted for a cozy waterfall cardigan that wraps and bundles perfectly but takes up minimal space in my carry on upon arrival.
My gingham oxford is warm enough under the sweater for winter weather but the sleeves get rolled up and the pink blends in with the Caribbean surroundings on the other side of the journey. Perfecto!
Of course I have to add the hat to protect my face (hey I’m almost 30!) from the sun. And flats because I will never ever be one of those women hobbling around the airport in heels. The flats cover my toes but are still tropical weather appropriate.

Love your striped sweater. I travel with a similar style sweater but it’s a lightweight cashmere waterfall cardigan that I cannot live without. Question: I hate going through airport security with bare feet (really skeeves me) so although I love traveling in flats, this is always my conundrum. Any suggestions for keeping my footwear stylish and practical?

I know it’s such a problem! I actually bring athletic socks and put them on through security. It’s not glamorous but neither is foot fungus! ๐
Thanks! Sure beats wearing boots and then lugging them to the tropics! Have a great trip!
Great styling tips for traveling! I always end up wearing yoga pants and an athletic zippy jacket, but your outfit is so cute! Have a great time on your trip!

I have to admit, I do a lot of yoga pants and zippies myself but trying to elevate my travel style. We’ll see how long this lasts ๐
Lovely combo! I like to wear lots of layers to the airport to avoid bringing a coat.

Love your Hermes bracelet! I am so wanting one. Where is your brown bag from? VV is my fave, of course.
It’s my favorite accessory. I want one in orange now too! Bag is J.Crew but it ‘s old so they don’t make it anymore
Love this post. I have a vacation planned soon too and always have a hard time planning a travel day outfit. I’ll be doing the same thing–going from cold to warm.
Lucky us!!! ๐
Great outfit! Loving the hat and flats!

Loving that cardigan, I cannot get enough of navy blue and white stripes
Julia, did you iron the brim on your Panama hat? It is so flat, compared to the roll on mine.
