Athletic Greens AG1 Review

I have seen influencers and athletes raving about Athletic Greens’ AG1 green powder for years, and had been curious if it really lived up to the hype, but never took the step to actually try it myself. Anel has also been taking it and recommending it to clients for a long time but do I ever listen to him on things like this? No.

A friend of mine (Hi Alex!) finally convinced me when she said that her energy levels and digestion had changed dramatically after drinking it daily. What really sealed the deal was when she said she gave up coffee and replaced it with….green powder? And had even more energy than before? What was this witchcraft? I had to find out for myself

It sounded too good to be true but I bought it on the spot (the single subscription) during that conversation because I am a tired tired ole’ mom and would do just about anything for an energy boost.

What does AG1 do? AG1 is a green powder packed with 75 vitamins, minerals and whole-food sourced ingredients that promotes gut health (With prebiotics, probiotics and natural occurring enzymes), promotes immunity (Includes your daily does of Vitamin C, zinc, healing mushrooms and more), and boosts energy (Magnesium regulates all-day energy).

According to the packaging, “one daily serving delivers a comprehensive blend of core health products, working together to fill nutrient gaps and deliver the foundation for better health.”

And it does all this with one scoop, once a day. That’s it! You can read about their ingredients and sourcing here.

My AG1 routine: Every morning I wake up and drink a scoop of AG1 powder mixed with 16oz of cold water. I’ve always wanted to be the person who drinks water or lemon water every morning to start the day out right and this forces me to do just that. I used to drink a cup of Earl Grey tea with breakfast to wake myself up but this has replaced that most days because of the sustained energy it has given me (more on that below).

The taste: Let’s be honest, I know a lot of people hate the taste. Is it weird that I like it now? I didn’t at first but over the last few weeks I’ve come to crave it when I wake up. Other people I know mix it with just 8oz and chug it to avoid the taste but I like to sip on it.

I’ve tried a lot of green powders over the years and many of them have a really earthy taste and chalky texture that turns me off. AG1 is a touch sweet (from pineapple, I’ve found out) and the texture is smooth when mixed with water.

If you can’t stand the taste, you can add a splash of juice or squeeze in some lemon.

Energy: I just could not get behind everyone’s claims that AG1 could boost your energy that much. Even a matcha can only do so much for me as a mom in my (late) 30’s. But when I tell you that it’s a different kind of energy, you’re just going to have to trust me on this. When I drink caffeine, I get a burst of energy that feels good but then fades. With AG1, it feels like a steady level of higher energy throughout the whole day.

Before I started taking it, I felt tired and sluggish in the afternoons and would be exhausted by 9pm every night. That’s not completely gone, of course. If I have a bad night of sleep or am up with the kids, I’m still normal tired, but 9 times out of 10, I feel so so so much better. Because I don’t have as much brain fog from being tired I am more productive, happier, and make healthier choices.

It’s as if there is always something going on behind the scenes in my body and cells, boosting my energy.

Digestion: Right before I started using AG1, I reached out to a nutritionist because I was getting terrible stomach aches regularly. I had a bunch of testing done (I’m still waiting on those results) because something felt really off. Welp, I am here to say that I changed nothing in my diet or lifestyle besides adding in the AG1 and every stomach issue I had is gone. Poof.

My digestion could not be more regular and I have no bloating. I was in it for the energy and walked away with better digestion too.

Other supplements: For as long as I can remember, I’ve taken a daily multivitamin, fish oil, probiotic, and recently had to add iron to the mix for anemia. This has replaced all of that except for my iron which I only take 2x/week now.

The price: This is the only downside on my end for AG1 powder. It is not cheap in any way shape or form. But if you think of it as replacing a multivitamin, probiotic, omega-3, and possibly morning caffeine, that makes it slightly more reasonable.

Overall review: I have recommended AG1 to all of my friends and family since I starting drinking it. If you can afford it and get beyond the price, it is a great product that has helped me feel more vibrant, more energized, and has regulated my digestion in a way that I didn’t think was even possible.
