Baby milestones are something that every new parent gets excited about. Whether it’s the first time they roll over or their first smile, it gets documented and celebrated with a million photos, videos and words of encouragement.
My friends at Cetaphil asked me to share some of the “firsts” I’m most excited about with Amalia to celebrate the brand’s 70th anniversary.
Sleeping Through the Night
If we’re being completely honest, the milestone I’ve been most excited about is sleeping through the night. I don’t care how much you love your baby, waking up in the middle of the night (sometimes multiple times) isn’t fun for any new parent (or any human in general).
For a while, she got closer and closer to it every week, but couldn’t seem to make it past 6:00am. Then suddenly last week (at 7 weeks old), she hit 7:00am and hasn’t turned back since (I’ll talk more about her sleep schedule/training in an upcoming post). It was a very exciting parenting moment for sure!
Laughing
She smiles constantly, and her little face lights up the whole room. The cutest part is that she sticks her tongue out when she smiles… It makes my heart flutter every single time! Sometimes she lets out a little grunt when she does it, but we’ve yet to get a laugh out of her.
I’m excited for the day when Anel and I can say or do something silly to get her to laugh. I mean is anything cuter than a baby laughing? I think not!
Talking
Maybe I’m being totally naive and should be grateful that she can’t say “no” yet, but despite the fact that she can’t speak, Amalia definitely communicates what she wants and doesn’t want already. I have a feeling she’s going to be an opinionated little gal!
Despite that fact, I’m beyond excited to see what kind of person she’ll become, and that will become more obvious when she starts to speak.
Eating Real Food
I don’t know why, but I’m oddly excited about making baby food. Who knows if I’ll actually have the time or patience to make it myself, but I hope I do! I realize that diapers will get a lot stinkier once she’s eating real food, but I can just picture her in a high chair eating and it makes me all giddy.
Hugs & Kisses
We spend more than half of her awake time each day snuggling. She’s so tiny and fits perfectly on my arm. It makes any bad day 1000x better. I love the feeling of her weight on my chest maybe more than any feeling in the world.
Her skin is so soft and smells like heaven. After bath time every night, I give her a baby massage with Cetaphil Baby Ultra Soothing Lotion which has shea butter and macadamia nut oil in it and makes her skin super soft and silky… Which of course leads to even more snuggles!
I’m looking forward to when she can actually give hugs and kisses. When she intentionally comes up to me and wraps her little arms around my neck. Ugh, I’m crying just thinking about it now.
To celebrate their 70th anniversary, Cetaphil is currently hosting a 70-hour flash sale! Click here to save $7 on any two Cetaphil products between September 17th and 19th. If you missed the sale, you can still save here.
PS Thank you to the Cetaphil team for sending us a cute monogrammed robe for me and towel for Amalia.
This is such a sweet post. Crying just thinking about someday having these experiences with my own baby once my husband and I start our own family. Even though I am not yet a mother I truly enjoy reading your motherhood posts!

Awww so sweet, Taylor! xx
What an adorable robe! Love love!
So cute, right? I’m living in it these days 🙂
I have a 3 week old and would love to see a post on your feeding/sleeping schedule! I’m following babywise but the “dream feed” around 10 is typically a full feeding still so she doesn’t go to sleep until after that. When did you start putting Amalia to bed around 7-7:30?
Yes! I’m working on that for next week so stay tuned. It’s taking a while to write ha 🙂
We still do the dream feed at 10 but we moved her bedtime from 8:30 to 7 about a week ago because we were feeling like we didn’t have a dinnertime at all. She stays asleep for the dream feed though!
