My Daily Hand Care Routine

Hand Routine

I have this thing for night routines. I’ve been going through this hand routine every night before bed lately along with my foot care routine. Life is quite sexy these days, I tell ya. Pre-COVID, I would get a manicure every week and this replaces that. It is a silly thing to do but this routine keeps my hands feeling really soft and my nails and cuticles healthy.

I’m actually laughing out loud as I’m about to hit publish on this post but, you know what? My hand routine makes me happy so I figure it might make you happy too! #30something

We take great care of our faces and necks, but hands are often the first sign of someone’s age so we all might as well start to focus on them early.

Hand Care Routine

Step 1: Wash your hands thoroughly in the shower or bath. I also exfoliate them when I exfoliate my body and feet every 2-3 days. I use this exfoliator in the shower but whatever you have will work fine.

Step 2: After I do my nightly face and foot routines, I wash off any other creams and do my hands last just before I read before bed. I start by putting Bee Naturals Cuticle Oil on my cuticles and then rubbing it in before putting on my favorite hand cream. Again, whatever you use for a cream, is fine. As long as it’s thick and really moisturizes your hands.

Step 3: 1-2x/week, I also file and buff my nails with the same file block that I use for my feet (I ended up buying a second one) before the cuticle oil/cream.

Step 4: Once/week, I push back my cuticles (never cut them!) with a cuticle pusher. If I have a hangnail, I gently cut it with the other piece in that set. I always apply cuticle oil before and after pushing back.

Step 4: Repeat nightly.

Monthly Hand Mask

I mean things have clearly gotten out of hand (pun intended) but I do hand masks now. Face masks, eye masks, foot masks, even a belly mask for pregnancy. I really like this Patchology hand mask but I’m sure there are lots of other great ones out there.

A quick Google search also brought me to a DIY avocado yogurt hand mask that now I want to try… I found it here.

Ingredients:
– 1 ripe avocado
– 2 tablespoons of raw honey
– 1 tablespoon of olive oil
– 2 teaspoons of plain yogurt

Directions:
1. Blend all ingredients in a blender.
2. Apply to your hands.
3. First, wrap your hands in plastic bags or latex gloves and then a towel to allow the mask to penetrate the skin more effectively.
4. Leave for 10-20 minutes.
Unwrap and rinse off the excess.
5. Follow with a hand cream.

I will stop cutting my cuticles the same day I stop using q-tips in my ears. (You did inspire me to see if that bottle of cuticle oil is still on my dresser and move it next to my bed instead.)

    Hi Julia!
Ironically ,I was just noticing how very old my hands look .I am in my fifties and admittedly very lazy when it comes to taking care of my hands. Reading your post about your hand routine inspired me to do better! I always enjoy reading your blog and wish you all the best during your last trimester. You have a lovely family!
