Every time I finish a room design I declare it as my favorite room in the house. And this sweet nursery for my sweet Luca is up there! A few months ago, Schumacher reached out with a pitch for my dream partnership: a blue and white challenge using their fabric. Uh, yes, please? I’m still pinching myself that this is even real!
One of the few rooms that we hadn’t completed yet was Luca’s nursery so it was a perfect fit.
We had already installed a rug and wallpaper but I wanted the window treatments and details to pop but also feel classic enough that he can keep them for years to come. I asked Dana to help me with the project and she and I had the best time creating this space together. We went with navy and white and, clearly, lots of gingham.
My original design for the room didn’t quite turn out as planned but the final outcome is beyond what I ever could have imagined! It is timeless but gives surprising little details when you look closely.
Luca’s room gets a beautiful amount of sunlight so going with a darker grasscloth wallpaper felt ok. It could have easily felt like a cave but because of the windows and bright sunlight, it looks vibrant and cool.
To pop against the blue grasscloth, I used Amalia’s old crib, a dresser from our old house, and some Target shelves, all in white. I really wanted to keep the furniture clean and simple so that the rest of the details could shine.
We decided to use three fabrics for the project (all gifted): Elton Cotton Check, Barnet Cotton Check, and a cool deer print Khan’s Park. I saw baby deer constantly when I was pregnant with Luca so I have a few nods to that around the room including the pillow we created for the glider.
We used the Elton Check as the main pattern both on the window treatments and the ottoman then Dana had the idea to trim them both with the Barnet Check fabric. We also used the Barnet Check on the lampshade and cork board. The Khan’s Park deer print was a bolder statement so we put it on a throw pillow so it didn’t overwhelm the room.
One of my favorite details is the fabric-wrapped cork board we designed to hang pictures, drawings from Amalia, and notes and cards.
This blue and white nursery is filled with so much love and already lots of memories! In the mornings, Amalia likes to crawl into the crib with her brother for a snuggle. At night, she comes in to kiss him before he falls asleep. And we’ve spent many many many hours on that glider… At all hours of the day and night!
