Earlier this week, we established that I have an addiction to redecorating. But no matter how many times I redo a space, one thing always remains the same: I love bright and happy colors and I love images of the beach.
I’m so excited to be featured on Gray Malin’s blog today. The home tour and interview includes these photos and many more from around my house. Gray, as you can probably tell, is my favorite photographer (Bright colors? Check. Images of the beach? Check.) and I have his work featured all over my home.
I get asked about my decorating style quite often, so in conjunction with this feature, I thought I’d answer a few of the most frequently asked questions today.
While I was pulling photos for this , I realized that I’ve never shared one picture of my dining room, so will do that hopefully soon. It’s a room that we don’t use often, but I wish we did because I love how it turned out.
In the meantime, enjoy this mini tour and see the full thing here.
PS for those of you who are interested, there is a reader requested post up on my Motherhood page with a ton of great dress options to wear to your baby shower.
Where do you get your decor inspiration?
All over the place! I love looking at decor photos on Pinterest and on other blogs. One Kings Lane does some great home tours that I love as well. I always keep an eye out when I’m visiting new friends or even cute hotels for inspiration. Basically… everywhere!
What is your favorite room in your house?
Probably my office. It’s my little sanctuary, and there is a whole lotta pink! I had to move it to a different room because the old office space is now the nursery. I made it into more of a “cloffice” (closet/office) because we don’t have enough closet space. You can see a little peek of it here.
As you can see it’s also Boots’ favorite room. His main bed is in there and he likes to sit with me while I work. Best coworker ever!
Where do you get all of your ginger jars?
I get this question so often, it’s kind of insane. When I see one that I love, I buy it. I have a few from Williams Sonoma like this cute little one which is a current favorite for peonies and only $65. This one that I found from Target is similar and only $29. One Kings Lane also has an awesome selection. In fact, here is a great one for $49! Uh oh, now I might need that… I have this square lidded ginger jar ($31) that’s great for flowers on my coffee table (you can see it below) from Wayfair.
While the options I shared are more affordable, they can cost hundreds of dollars, so sometimes it takes some hunting to find one at a good price.
What do you plan to change once you have a baby/toddler?
I’m not sure yet. Everyone who comes over says I need to toddler-proof the house, so I guess I’ll find out what that means soon enough! I’m guessing that the glass coffee table in our living room will have to be retired for a while and we’ll definitely need a gate at the top of the stairs.
Beyond that, no clue… but feel free to chime in! I’ll take all the advice I can get over here.
Let me know if you have any other questions about how I decorate and I’ll answer them in the comments below! Gray Malin is having an amazing Memorial Day Sale: 25% all all La Dolce Vita prints through Memorial Day.

Loved your insta story Q&A the other night! Could you possibly do a “Protein Post” on the ways both you and your husband incorporate protein into your diets? Thanks!
Absolutely! I’m going to share the pasta recipe I talked about next week so will include that info in that post 🙂
Fabulous, thanks! Would love a list of your top gluten-free brands too. We recently switched to Banza brand pasta and love it so looking for similar suggestions.
I love your style, Julia! I am with you on the bright and cheery colors. Your home is your haven and should be be filled with colors and items that lift you up and make you peaceful and happy! 🙂
P.S… (not that my opinion matters) but, I see nothing wrong with having a love for redecorating and design. If it is something that you really enjoy doing and brings you joy then do it! I think there are far worse things that we can have “addictions” to. Keep doing you sister! xo 🙂
its so pretty and colorful! and for what it’s worth, my little girl is very gentle on our house and we never had to baby proof anything- i think it all depends on personality!

pretty summer dresses on my blog today!

Oh that is great to know! Fingers crossed mine will be the same way. Based on her kicking, I doubt it haha.
I’d love to see your updated office space! My husband had an office when I moved in, but it’s becoming a nursery as well. I’d love some tips on creating an office with minimal space.

Ok will shoot it and share it soon! It’s actually not a tiny room but I did cram a closet and office into one room so hopefully that is helpful.
You have great style! Have you ever used an interior decorator? Wondering about that experience versus designing rooms on your own. When you work on your own, where do you start? We just moved to a new house and it’s a bit overwhelming — do I choose furniture/fabric first? Paint colors? Appreciate any advice you can offer!
Thanks Ashley! Yes I’ve used decorators but the rooms that I redid were always the ones that I worked on with someone else. I just prefer to do it myself because I’m crazy like that 🙂
I always start with one piece and then decorate the room around that. So it might be a navy couch or one of my big beach prints. Next I pick paint colors followed by the rest. That’s probably not the correct way to do it, but it works for me!
Your space is amazing! I love your taste, Julia!

Absolutely love this post, & Gray Malin art. You designed your space so beautifully! I agree with what Ashley said below. I’m curious also to know what you choose first, furniture or paint. Looking forward to hearing back & reading more of your posts!
Thank you so much, Stacey! Just answered Ashley’s question below so check there 🙂
Hi Julia! In terms of baby proofing your house, you’ll just figure it out as you go along – haha! One day she’ll do something and you’ll realize you have to make that change. 🙂 My first baby did not try to climb up everything but now with my second, she’s a climber, and we have no dining table chairs for the time being. 🙂
Oh man ok! Great advice, thank you 🙂
Love this post- all of the rooms in your house are gorgeous!

Thanks Katie!
Your home looks like absolute perfection and so full of personality! I am in love! Right now, I live in an apartment (Branford, CT) with used furniture that don’t match, womp womp. But at least it was all free.

Hey, nothing wrong with free!!! Just add pieces one at a time and go slowly 🙂
Where did you get your sheet set in the guest bedroom pictures? I love the orange details
Aren’t they so cute? They’re from Serena & Lily and you can buy them here: http://bit.ly/2rW75HQ
So gorgeous! Where did you get the navy benches?
Thank you!
They are from Ballard Design!
Your home is absolutely stunning. I love the recurring themes of blue and gold. Each piece of furniture just seems to work so well together (even your dog seems to fit in so nicely)… great work!
