Nautical Guest Room

Decorating this new house has been quite the project. I feel like we always have a million balls in the air. From going back and forth with the designers to tracking furniture deliveries, to changing my mind about things way too often, the process is incredibly fun but a lot more work than I thought.

While some of the other rooms in the home come together (master bedroom, formal living room, dining room, family room, kitchen, my office, etc), I threw together our guest room under the radar and just realized this weekend when we had guests for the holiday, that it was actually complete with one swap of a rug. It was a tough room to work with because it’s a pretty small space, the flooring is incredibly ugly, and there is only one window (not pictured because it was so bright and we’re waiting on the shade to arrive!) which was an interesting architectural design to say the least.

I kept the room incredibly simple with a beach-house feel. I created the look of this room by starting first with this Matouk bedding which has become a guilty pleasure for me. Their bedding is so crisp and beautiful and I fell in love with this navy and white throw and expanded the look from there.

We had these lamps and nightstands from our apartment but they never really fit in with the look of our old guest room. They feel so much more in place here. With all the navy and white, I wanted the walls a softer, more natural tone, so we went with Farrow & Ball’s Cornforth White (which is actually a soft grey). To add an even more natural feel, I went with this jute rug which is as soft as it is gorgeous…something hard to find in a Sisal.
