I really thought we had another week before the 4th of July, but I just realized it’s next week. Summer always flies by so quickly and I don’t know why that surprises me year after year. We’re heading to Newport for the holiday week, and I just picked up a few things for the trip including these amazing striped sailor shorts and the Sail to Sable USA sweater.
Dressing in Americana is fun all season long, but why not go all out to celebrate on the 4th? Every year my aunt has a big all-day party at her lake house which involves swimming, tubing, water skiing, and lots of eating and drinking. I bought this star bikini top for the swimming portion of the day, but the bottom was sold out in my size, so I’m pairing it with a red high-waisted bottom for the perfect 4th of July swim look. For a change-into-dinner outfit as the sun goes down, I plan to wear my USA sweater with red earrings and these white jeans, a new purchase after borrowing a pair from a girlfriend. For the daytime portion of the party, I’m praying it’s warm enough out to wear these sailor shorts with a striped tee or red tank depending on the temps. And you better believe I’m bringing along my trusty American flag cap!

Ugh I just LOVE this time of year. Bring on all the red, white, blue, and stripes!!
Amen to that!
Really disappointed that you’ve decided to use a Tuckernuck dress as an option for this post. Their recent copying of the Striped Sheep design and failure for a true apology is appalling.
I don’t know the whole story, but I was a little surprised/ disappointed to see two of their items featured in this post as well.
That being said, love the July 4th inspiration! I’m all in for Americana themed attire throughout out the summer. If I remember correctly GAP didn’t rank well regarding their sustainability, but they have a similar shape red, white and blue dress at a much lower price point for anyone looking for an alternative.
If you follow the Striped Sheep (I do now), she mentioned on her stories a few days ago that she was contacted in private by one woman from Tnuck (I’m assuming one of the owners, but who knows) and they offered to carry her brand. She declined, but did say that the women apologized. Although not a public apology, it made me feel a little better to know that they had attempted to rectify the situation.
I do follow Striped Sheep now, but Tuckernuck’s response to her was DAYS after their initial email blast and subsequently pulling the shirt for sale off of the website. They received MAJOR criticism between the first email and the phone call/apology hidden among the comments. (Note to Julia: the shirt in question is still listed in your ‘Stripe Shop’)
Thank you for letting me know! I just removed it from the stripe shop. I have spoken to both parties and although I believe that they made a mistake, I also know that there are two sides to this and every story.
