Let’s be honest, I’ve never been a cool girl. I’ve always had a touch of dorkiness in me and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Super cool “cool girls” used to intimidate me, until I realized, as an adult, that they can be just as insecure and vulnerable as the rest of us. That was one of those big lessons from my 20s was like a giant lightbulb going off.
I remember reading somewhere that when you get in an elevator with another person and feel awkward, just remember that the other person is feeling that too. And I think that works as an analogy for the cool kids in school. Although they may have cooler clothes or be better in sports, they feel the same things that you’re feeling.
Ok enough of my mom talk for you young readers out there today.
Two summers ago, all the cool girls were wearing bandanas like this one tied around their necks so, naturally, I’m two years late to the game. And then I paired it with a high waisted gingham skirt, figures! Like I said, a touch of dorkiness… PS if you get this skirt, or anything from this brand, be sure to size down as it runs large.
So were you a cool girl or a not-so-cool girl in high school?

Love this outfit! You’re adorable.
The mom in me would also mention that being “cool”is totally overrated. The ones who went furthest in life weren’t cool – they were smart, funny, curious, or kind.
Totally true!!
I love that skirt. It looks so pretty on you! And I love anything gingham. I look very cool 🙂
Have a wonderful day, it looks like the weather has been gorgeous,

LOVING this outfit, Julia! Totally get the never being a cool girl look, I work with some cool girls and it’s slowly changing my style and I love it.
I have Franco Sarto shoes just like these and love them.
Just a quick note to say that I’ve really enjoyed your content as of late – keep up the good work!
And I think we’re all a bit dorky 🙂

I’ve never been a cool girl either, but I totally agree it’s fun to get in on the “cool” trends anyway! Love how you’re rocking this one, and such a pretty skirt for spring!

I love this outfit! The lighting in the photos make the skirt look almost dark green which is pretty. My friends and I always ask each other when we’re trying to put outfits together if it’s a ‘cool girl outfit’ so I love that you think that too!
Your spring outfits have been so great, such a good inspiration for my spring/summer wardrobe!

Such a pretty look! I’ve always had a few close friends. However, I was never the cool girl at any stage of my schooling. I’m way too introverted to hang with the popular crew. I’m also very content in my introversion. As we all know, with friendships, choose quality over quantity.
Happy Wednesday

OMG that made me laugh out loud. Next time say hi!! xx
Totally will say Hi next time. You had walked in front of our office on Elm and I told my co-workers “That’s a blogger I follow”, most of them said “what is a blogger?”. Yikes!
Love how you styled this- the neck scarf is the cutest addition! I’m not sure I can pull one off but I definitely want to try now!
