Is lilac the new millennial pink? I know, I know… That’s quite a severe statement but it’s seemingly everywhere and I’m not mad at it. I bought this lilac-hued shirt on pre-order because I was so excited by the color, the pretty neckline, and the sweet bows on the sleeves. And I’m so glad I did because it was even better in person. Although it’s pretty short so if you have an oddly long torso like me, just wear it with high waisted jeans or skirts.
I’ve been seeing this shade of lilac. Don’t get me wrong, I love blush pink as much as the next millennial, but there’s something about the pretty shade of light purple everywhere that feels fresh and new.
I’m working on a post about great wedding guest dresses for next week, and I’m finding that a lot of my picks are pretty purple frocks like this lace one and this gorgeous silhouette from Gal Meets Glam.
On a completely unrelated note, Jack Rogers sent me a pair of their newest heels to test out and I’m super impressed. I usually hate wearing heels and just grin and bear it the whole time, but these are super comfy and understated for summer BBQs and even more casual weddings. They come in black, camel (mine), gold, and white.
And on the last unrelated note, I have no idea how to style my hair now that it’s so short so forgive all the ponytails for the next few weeks while I figure it out. Any short-haired friends have tips?
How are you planning to rock lovely lilac this summer?

Apparently lilac is also hot for men right now. My teenage son chose a hoodie in that color and to be honest I was a bit skeptical– thought he had to be joking (as it is not a shade I ever would have picked for him, and not his usual color palette)– then recently we were driving in the car and there was a fashion segment on the local radio station and their expert claimed it was trendy for me. Of course my son said “See Mom!”
Oh wow good to know! Now that I think of it, Anel just bought a lilac colored polo too!
I cut my hair the same length not too long ago and I’ve been at a total loss! I typically just wear it straight (so exciting, I know).
You look fab in that shirt! And the bag is
Same with the straight. It feels too short to curl like I’ll just end up burning myself!
There are so many pretty ways to highlight a short hairstyle…Think barrettes, headbands, and scarves. Check out the photos on the Toteme website. You could easily interpret these ideas with a preppy flair. Also, France Luxe is a great resource for pretty barrettes and other hair accessories. Have fun!
Great resources, thank you so much!
I love the color on you! I never seem to be able to pull off lavender, but maybe I could pull off this shade. It’s got a brightness to it.
When I had short hair, I tried to add a lot of texture and wave. I have naturally straight hair and I felt like it just clung to my face when I didn’t style it.
Thanks Alyssa! I think this shade can go with literally any skin tone so give it a try.
Love that color, and the bows on the sleeves are so sweet! I jut cut my hair to around your length and I like to twist back the front (think Emma Watson in Beauty and the Beast) and leave the back down. It keeps it out of my face and controls humidity frizz. xAllie

Ooooh pretty! I’m going to try that this weekend.
Loving lilac and lavender, and wearing in my post today too. Purple is such a pretty color and I’m glad it’s getting some love this summer! Such a cute top, and you styled it perfectly.

Thanks Sam! I love how you wore it with that pretty GMG dress too 🙂
I’ve been really into lilac too and have been eyeing the Gal Meets Glam dress too!
For shorter hair, it’s tough because those layers underneath at the nape of your neck are so short. I find that a low ponytail or little bun work. I also love to just pin back the front with bobby pins (sort of like doing half up-half down but with crossed pins or a barrette) or French braid with pins to hold those shorter layers.
Yes! The short neck hairs are killing me. They always fall out of my ponytail and are driving me crazy. I’m going to try your half up tomorrow.
Beautiful color!
