A few months ago, Brooks Brothers asked me if I wanted to share #MyBrooksBrothersStory in their March catalog. As a long-time supporter of the brand, I was thrilled to share my story with them and am even more thrilled that it’s featured in this month’s catalog. If you’re on their mailing list, check page nine!
My Brooks Brothers Story:
I moved to Manhattan when I was 21 years old, fresh-faced and excited to take on the city, but with no clue about how to do it. My dad—my forever mentor—started helping me prep for job interviews as soon as I landed. Before my first big interview, he brought me into the Brooks Brothers store on the Upper East Side to pick out a classic outfit to wear on the big day. Over lunch on Madison Avenue, we discussed my career goals and how I should present myself to potential employers.
I’ll never forget the feeling of trying on that seersucker pencil skirt and crisp white shirt with my mother’s pearls. The look of pride in my father’s eyes made me feel like a grown-up for the first time. I learned a lot from him that day—how to hold eye contact without fidgeting, how to answer questions directly and succinctly, and how to dress for success.
P.S. I got the job!
