New Years Sparkle

With the holiday season in full swing, it’s easy to focus on #allofthetartan and forget about what’s just beyond Christmas… New Years Eve! When Modcloth asked me to pick one of their Gatsby-inspired party looks for a post today, I got so excited because I hadn’t even began to think about what I would be wearing for the sparkliest night of the year, even though it’s only 10 days away.

Like many people my age, I have a weird relationship with the holiday. There’s always so much pressure to have the most fun night ever, and if it isn’t, I’m often disappointed.

This year, we’re hanging out with some friends who also recently had a baby. We’re going to dress up and feel glamorous but the babies will be sleeping upstairs while we sip champagne in our fancy frocks downstairs. If we’re being totally honest, I’ll probably be asleep before midnight, but I’m cool with that. Excited, in fact.

Man, I’m old…

Gone are the days of clubbing in the city or party hopping on a freezing night. But just because the night looks different, doesn’t mean I have to lose the glitz and glam. I’m so so so in love with this sparkly shift dress (which happens to be on major sale today). It already makes quite the statement so I just paired it with simple earrings and  a gorgeous pair of bow high heeled sandals that are also great for holiday looks.

If navy sparkles aren’t your vibe, you could go for something pleated and metallic or an amazing emerald green sequined pencil skirt with a great blouse. I’m also majorly obsessed with this bow dress with a low back. and I think I’d feel like a ballerina in this pretty frock.

So what are your New Years plans and what’s your dress-up vibe?

SO pretty! Love the dress and the shoes! We’re going out to dinner with a couple of friends, but then heading home for some champagne and watching the ball drop on TV. Definitely not interested in paying crazy prices to be smooshed in a bar with tons of people, and totally okay with that!

    xx
