Life Lately: Volume 33

Lilly Pulitzer Baby

What a strange week to live through… a strange month really. Scratch that, the last year has been a whirlwind of tragedies and worldwide heartbreak. The worst part is that whenever there’s another shooting or terror attack, it doesn’t feel like a surprise anymore. It feels like it’s becoming the norm in the news and that is not ok. It will never be ok.

Thoughts and prayers are important, pertinent in fact, but they’re not enough. Please join me in working towards a world in which there are no more school shootings, no more mass casualties, and no more guns in the hands of people who should never ever own one.

This week I discovered and donated to Everytown for Gun Safety, a great organization trying to fight the NRA and end gun violence for good. Skip brunch or that extra drink this weekend, and put that money toward making a difference.

While there are dark and scary things going on in the world, I am a big believer in focusing on things in our own lives that make us happy. If we live in fear then the people creating this violence have won, and I refuse to let that happen.

So on that note, I hope that some of the links below resonate with your life today or bring a smile to your face. Have an amazing weekend. I know I will be focusing on the good with my family in Bermuda. I’ll be back here on Tuesday. In the meantime, follow our fun on Instagram!

Around the Web

Meet me in Greenwich! Next week I’m hosting an event at Theory on Greenwich Ave with my friend Brooke from Monogram Mary, who will bebe monogramming sweaters and shirts from 11-1 on Wednesday. I hope you’ll join us!

Stop calling women nags. The spot on article about emotional labor that inspired this post. Also this comic strip on the same topic, shared with me by a reader, hits the nail on the head.

Slouchy sweater. I found the perfect slouchy sweater for fall and bought it yesterday in dark green. Also loving the pink though.

Staying sane in a digital world. I love love love Grace’s post on her blogger iPhone detox. Trying to figure out a time when I can do the same.

Proof that there’s still good out there. This amazing grandpa comforts babies in the NICU and will melt your heart. I literally cried watching the video.

Fun flannel. How cute is this plaid flannel shirt in blue green coral from J.Crew Factory?

It’s gourd season. I know this satire article is old, but it makes me laugh every year when I inevitably see it on Facebook again. PS it has a lot of f-bombs so be warned!

Kids outerwear sale. One of our all time favorite baby clothing brands, Polarn O. Pyret is having a 25% off outerwear sale through October 23rd. Jackson always has their coats and we got Amalia this bunting for fall/winter.

The rise of picture-perfect motherhood. Another spot-on article  that I read this week about Instagram moms.

$1000 fall giveaway. Today is the last day to enter our $1000 fall shopping spree giveaway!

Tunic dress. Obsessed with this classically preppy dress from my friend Jen’s company.

Health tip. My sister told me that you can add your health info and emergency contacts to your Health App if you have an iPhone. I did it this week in case of emergency. Better safe than sorry!

The secret to Patagonia’s success. Turns out it’s work/life balance.

New mamas, read this. Please don’t leave Target because your baby is crying.

Currently watching. Anel and I just finished season one of Ozark on Netflix last night and I’m fully obsessed. It’s dark and twisted in all the right ways, and Jason Bateman is phenomenal. I highly recommend it if you’re looking for a new show to binge!
