A few months, I found a list of 10 questions to ask your mother. My mom, sister, grandmother, and I all answered the same questions and compared our answers at the end (nerds!). It was a fun activity that helped us learn just a little bit more about each other.
After our weekend together, I thought I’d share our answers and encourage you to do this with your own mother.
I excluded half of our answers because they were a little too personal to share here. I also added seven lighter, more fun questions at the beginning.
So first, some fun questions. . .
Julia: Blush pink / Mary: Periwinkle blue
Julia: / Mary: Love, Actually
Julia: Il Gattopardo (The Leopard) by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa / Mary: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Julia: Fish tacos / Mary: Warm brownie hot fudge sundae
One beauty product you can’t live without
Julia: Burt’s Bees lip balm / Mary: Aquaphor
Sweet or salty?
Julia: Salty / Mary: Sweet
Beach or mountains?
Julia: Definitely beach / Mary: Definitely mountains
Then a little bit more serious. . .
Outside of family members, who inspires you the most?
Julia: Successful and passionate entrepreneurs who make their dreams a reality and work at those dreams every day.
Mary: Eleanor Roosevelt
How would your childhood friends describe you?
Julia: Bossy, generous, fun, controlling, happy. Hungry.
Mary: Organized, bossy
What is better about the world today than when you were growing up?
Julia: Green juice, Whole Foods, Virgin America, gel manicures, wifi (no more dial-up!), FaceTime, the fat-free diet trend is no more.
Mary: Women’s rights, civil rights, advances in medicine, personal computers, post-it notes
If you could go back in time to any period in history, where would you go and why?
Julia: I’d want to be a teenager in the 60s. I would love to live through a time where I felt part of a movement and a community. Plus the drugs.
Mary: The 1950’s. Peace and prosperity

Absolutely love this & want to do it with my mom!
This is awesome! Going to do it with my mom for sure!
This is so cute and such a wonderful way to show how special the mother/daughter bond is. Inspired to do a post like this on my blog now!
What were the other questions Julia? Okay to not tell us the answers! Thanks!
This is the best post i have read in a long time. Thanks so much for sharing and inspiring me to do the same with my own blog. 🙂
This is such a cute idea 🙂 Love this and definitely want to do it with my mom!!
I love this—I’m definitely closer with my mom than I was growing up, but there’s a lot I feel like I don’t know about her and more I learn every day. She wouldn’t normally be the type to do something like this (answer the questions…probably won’t put them up online at least for me, haha) but I’m going to make her when I go home next!
This is such a cool post! Definitely want to do this with my mom now 🙂 I would be interested in what she had to say on the more serious questions!
