I’m so sorry in advance for posting this recipe because once you start eating it, I can guarantee you won’t be able to stop. It’s apple pie on steroids…. a caramel apple on a plate… the best Thanksgiving dessert I can think of. Bookmark this for any holiday cooking you might have coming up! It’s worth the sugar high.
Caramel Apple Pie
Makes 8 servings
Pie Ingredients:
– 1 store-bought pie crust
– 5 large apples, cored, peeled, and sliced
– 1 Tbs lemon juice
– 1/2 cup sugar
– 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
– 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
– 1/4 teaspoon salt
Topping Ingredients:
– 1 stick (8 Tbs) unsalted butter, room temperature
– 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
– 1 cup packed brown sugar
– 1/2 cup oats
– 1/2 tsp salt
– 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
– 1/2 cup caramel sauce
– Vanilla ice cream, for serving
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375F.
- In a large bowl, mix the apples, lemon juice, sugar, flour, cinnamon and salt and set aside.
- In a medium bowl, use a mixer to mix butter, flour, brown sugar, oats, and salt.
- Place the apple mixture onto the pie crust.
- Top with the topping mixture.
- Cover with foil and bake for about 50 minutes.
- Remove foil, add chopped pecans, and bake for another 10 minutes.
- Remove the pie from the oven, top with caramel sauce, and let cool for 10 mins.
- Serve with vanilla ice cream.
