Caramel Apple Pie

I’m so sorry in advance for posting this recipe because once you start eating it, I can guarantee you won’t be able to stop. It’s apple pie on steroids…. a caramel apple on a plate… the best Thanksgiving dessert I can think of. Bookmark this for any holiday cooking you might have coming up! It’s worth the sugar high.

Salted Caramel Apple Pie:

Makes 8 servings

Pie Ingredients:

– 1 store-bought pie crust
– 5 large apples, cored, peeled, and sliced
– 1 Tbs lemon juice
– 1/2 cup sugar
– 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
– 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
– 1/4 teaspoon salt

Topping Ingredients:

– 1 stick (8 Tbs) unsalted butter, room temperature
– 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
– 1 cup packed brown sugar
– 1/2 cup oats
– 1/2 tsp salt
– 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
– 1/2 cup caramel sauce
– Vanilla ice cream, for serving

Directions

  1. 1. Preheat oven to 375F.
    2. In a large bowl, mix the apples, lemon juice, sugar, flour, cinnamon and salt and set aside.
    3. In a medium bowl, use a mixer to mix butter, flour, brown sugar, oats, and salt.
    4. Place the apple mixture onto the pie crust.
    5. Top with the topping mixture.
    6. Cover with foil and bake for about 50 minutes.
    7. Remove foil, add chopped pecans, and bake for another 10 minutes.
    8. Remove the pie from the oven, top with caramel sauce, and let it cool for about 10 minutes. 
    9. Serve with vanilla ice cream.
