Last summer I wrote a post about when to go natural. I talked about when I use natural products and when I don’t. Since then I’ve cleaned up my act even more and am trying to be as natural and organic as physically possible without straying from normal life. I’m going to write a series of posts about the products I use (like actually use, no sponsorships allowed here!) starting with beauty. The products I’m featuring are tried and true for me but I always am on the hunt for more so comment below with any natural beauty products that you love.
Let me know what you want to hear about next. Household cleaners? Makeup? Dog food? My insane supplement regimen? You name it and I’ll post it.
Face
Desert Essence Tea Tree Oil Facewash– I’ve strayed a few times in the last year from my favorite face wash and have paid the price. This one cleans deeper than anything else and is the only wash I use that doesn’t break me out. I wash with it only at night with my Clarisonic
SW Basics Toner– In the morning I use only this toner without washing which is and always will be my favorite beauty product of all time. It has five ingredients but they all work hard to keep my face clean and clear (and under control!). I also use their makeup remover made with almond oil, olive oil, and jojoba oil. That’s it! I once commented on Lena Dunham’s Instagram about this and she tweeted back that it’s her fave too. So now we’re best friends. NBD…
Chantecaille Detox face mask– I got this face mask as a gift recently and am now an addict. I slather it on once a week for a deep pore cleanse that doesn’t dry me out. It smells good and gives a great tingle that makes me feel like it’s actually doing something.
Tata Harper Purifying mask– I go back and forth between the mask mentioned above and this one. They both have a similar effect but I can’t decide which is my favorite.
Dr. Hauschka Steam Bath– Acne-prone people, you’re welcome. Do this steam bath once/month and you’ll notice instant results. When combined with steam, it helps open your pores to cleanse the surface of impurities while also reducing the appearance of blackheads and blemishes. Obsessed.
Tata Harper Elixir Vitae Eye Serum– I have a weird obsession with eye creams because I’m super self-conscious of my under-eye bags. This one works like Botox, tightening and smoothing the skin in the most natural way. The price tag is aggressive, but once you use it for a week or two, you’ll see why.
Lips
Burt’s Bees Lip Balm– Once an addict, always an addict. I have one in every purse and every drawer in my house. I buy them in bulk. (Sorry Adina!)
Dr. Hauschka Lip Care Stick– Listen we all know Dr. Hauschka products are pricey, but they’re usually worth it in my opinion. I usually splurge once every 3 or 4 months on this lip care stick and use it before bed only (because of my previously mentioned Burt’s addiction). I like it for overnight because it’s thick and lasts a long time. Great product if you’re willing to shill out the dough.
Body
Herbivore Coco Rose Coconut Oil Body Polish– This exfoliating body polish blends virgin coconut oils and smells like roses. Basically heaven in a bottle. I use it once or twice a week in the shower, scrubbing it on my arms and legs and rinsing after a few minutes. It will leave your skin feeling silky soft and super hydrated.
Agent Nateur Deoderant– I’ve tried approximately 8,000 natural deodorants and they don’t work. They just don’t! Or so I thought until I discovered Agent Nateur on Goop (natch). Although I stick to the strong stuff on the hottest of days, this one actually keeps the stink away 90% of the time. Plus it smells great which never hurt anyone.
Kiss My Face Moisture Shave– The best shaving cream (even better than every non-natural one I’ve used) that adds serious moisture and wakes me up with peppermint oil.
Alba Extra Emollient Body Lotion– I’ve been using this body lotion for probably 10 years. It has a lovely subtle scent and is…you guessed it…extra emollient, meaning that it seeps in quickly. People always tell me how soft my skin is and I think it has something to do with this. I mean it must, right?
Hair
John Masters Organics Scalp Stimulating Shampoo– While I have naturally oily skin, my scalp is in a constant state of dryness. Fun times, right? This shampoo is like an organic version of head and shoulders, both stimulating and soothing my scalp, preventing future dryness. It works well to wash my color-treated hair as well. For first-timers of organic shampoo, don’t expect the usual lather that comes from sulfates. You’ll have to work a bit harder for suds but it will be well worth it.
John Masters Organics Detangler– My fine hair can’t handle heavy conditioners and this one is extremely light making it perfect for my ends after washing my hair. Not much more to say about it but it’s definitely a winner.
Bath
Seaweed Detox Bath– I randomly found these bath salts (although it’s actually crystallized kelp, so cool!) at Fairway one day when I wasn’t feeling so great and bought them on a whim. That night I took a bath with them and felt instantly better, no joke! The smell of pepper mint and eucalyptus is pretty intense so I don’t recommend it right before bed. The sea crystals are supposed to hold over 60 mienrals, vitamins, antioxidants, and amino acids. It’s like a super detox, drawing out toxins and stimulating lymphatic drainage.
Jane Inc. Effervescent Cube (Less Stress)-
California Baby Bubble Bath– I use the “Overtired & Cranky” scent at least once a week. I know this is formulated for babies but I promise it works just as well on grown ass women. I don’t recommend mixing it with the salts mentioned above. I mix it instead, with plain old Epsom Salts for a detoxifying effect.
Hands
Beautycounter Neroli Hand Cream is a dream. I always slather it on before we get into bed and I wake up with moisturized hands and cuticles. Anel and I both love the scent as well.
Zoya Nail Polish– Natural nail polish doesn’t usually do it for me. I generally stick to Essie’s Ballet Slippers. That being said, I recently found a local salon that uses Zoya polish and my manicure lasted for over a week. This color looks pretty similar to Ballet Slippers so I think I’m actually (gasp) a convert.
Essential Oils
Aimee Raupp Beauty Aromatherapy– Lately I’ve been really into essential oils and this set is my top pick. They’re created my my incredible acpupuncturist Aimee and I’ve been using them in place of perfume. The “love” oil is to die for… It’s made to bring you more love and joy (yes please!) with pink rose, ylang ylang, jasmine, and sandalwood.
Love reading this! I have recently been trying to switch to more natural/organic products and have been loving it! Would love to hear more about your supplement routine 🙂
Great post, love all the suggestions!
This post is right up my alley! I’ll have to try out the Jon Masters shampoo and conditioner. I swear by maracuja oil as a daily moisturizer, Skyn facial wash, and Sukin night cream. I also love Treat nail polish and Karma Naturals lavender nail polish remover!
Taffeta & Tulips
I’ve just updated my skincare regimen to include Sibu sea buckthorn oil. I also like Ren organic skincare with vitamin C as well as the packaging and luxuriousness of Evan Healy products. Thanks for giving me a few more products to try out.
Great list! I decided to go natural around the same time, and I’m so amazed by how well the new natural products work! Love Agent Nateur from your list, I can’t believe how effective it is!
Hi Julia! First of all, thank you for everything you do! Question; What do you use for a moisturizer on your face every day? I didn’t see it in the list of your faves. Maybe I missed it…….?
So funny that you just asked this because I’m literally working on a post about my everyday routine right now! I use PCA “clearskin” moisturizer which isn’t natural but it’t the only one that doesn’t break me out unfortunately. I love it!
Awesome! Can’t wait for the post! I have really sensitive skin. I think I will try PCA. Thanks so much Julia!
