Dressing As Mom

Lemon Stripes 1901 Plaid Dress

Moms always talk about their “mom uniform” (myself included) and there’s a reason. If you’re running around with a kid and picking them up and getting puked on and such, you want something comfortable and not too fussy.

My mom uniform is usually yoga pants (I live in lululemon align crops but have heard that Zella leggings are incredible and super affordable so just bought my first pair on major sale!) and a loose tank top/tee shirt/sweater.

I don’t like to look like a total slob so I usually wear black on black, black on navy, or black on white for a cleaner lewk. That said, I get sick of it sometimes, and even though I work from home, there are days when I just want to look and feel pretty. On those occasions I’ll usually throw on white jeans or shorts with a striped tee in the summer, and dark jeans or leggings with a sweater or my favorite fleece in the winter.

But then a dress like this comes along and how can I not put it on? It feels very Mad Men to me.. I wore it the other day to daycare pick up the teachers were like woah you actually have real clothes?!?

When I do dress up in something like this, I try to make sure it’s not something that I have to constantly pull up or where the sleeves fall off, and the longer length is helpful when I’m sitting on the floor with Amalia.

If you like this dress (which is on sale) check out the 1901 pieces that are part of the Nordstrom sale right now. This striped shirt dress is my top pick.

What is your mom uniform? PS starting in August I’m going to be posting one outfit each week in which I “shop my closet” and re-wear pieces I’ve already posted about. If you have anything you want me to post, let me know!

It’s the best. It’s a newer Nordstrom brand and full of preppy but affordable clothing. I love it!

This dress looks amazing on you! I ordered it too but sadly it runs small with lots and lots of fabric in the skirt (not great for us petite ladies).

Oh no so sad to hear that! I have an abnormally long torso so I often have opposite problems 🙂

    Hi Julia,
You recently posted on your insta stories about an amazon version of your favorite sunglasses, for $7! I immediately put them in my basket to order later, but just tried to order and they’ve disappeared! Can you share the name again? Thanks!

I’m about the same.. My stay at home mom uniform usually includes leggings and some sort of a tee that doesn’t make me look to frumpy. I try to go for a practical comfy look but one that doesn’t make me look like a complete slob! I’d love to see your daily outfits to get some inspiration!
