Greetings from Newport! We just spent two days as a little family of three hanging out at our favorite beach, swimming in the pool, and exploring one of our favorite towns with our favorite girl. We booked this part of our trip last minute, and I’m so glad that we did. We had no real plans and have really just been going with the flow which is super unlike me. I’m kind of into it though! Today we’re hopping on a ferry to Martha’s Vineyard to meet up with my family for the rest of the week.
Anel and I haven’t taken a full week off of work together (except for at Christmas) since our honeymoon six years ago! It was high time for a longer trip. We’re having such a good time and Amalia is in heaven.
Last night for dinner, she and I wore our matching mommy and me Lilly Pulitzer dresses and I can’t tell you how many people stopped us on the street to comment on them. I figure I only have a few short years to match with her before she refuses something so lame and embarrassing, so I’m taking full advantage of the situation while I can. The baby Lilly shifts are my favorite thing ever and Amalia has worn them in multiple patterns time and again here and here in the tiniest size.
But even more exciting than our outfits (believe it or not) is the fact that Amalia has fully mastered standing on her own since we’ve been here. She’ll go from sitting or squatting to standing up without holding onto anything. She smiles like a crazy person and is so proud of herself whenever she does it. Sometimes claps are involved. It’s adorable and feels like a big milestone!
We’re crossing our fingers that she walks on her own by the end of the vacation but I think we might still be a few weeks away for that one. She’ll take a step or two from one of us to the other, but once she realizes what she’s doing, she gets scared and promptly sits down. Any moms have a timeline of how long it took from standing up to walking?
We’ve been doing a lot of beach days on this trip and back at home this summer, so stay tuned for my beach tips with a toddler coming soon by popular request. But we’ve also taken a new approach to healthier vacations this summer and I’m going to share my tips with you tomorrow on that because it’s been going so well! Let me know if there are any other vacation-related posts you want to see in the near future.

Heart eyes for these dresses!!! My 15 month old started standing on her own and taking one or two steps in the beginning of April (right before her birthday), and was officially walking about three weeks later. And now she runs, skips, and tries to jump- it’s pretty hilarious. You might be a few more weeks away… enjoy her semi-stillness now, because once she’s walking, you’ll rarely sit and relax- but like, in a great way! Enjoy your vacay! 🙂
Oh yay!!! I’m relishing in the semi-stillness but also so excited to see her take those steps!
These really are the cutest photos! Going on vacation with your little one makes them so much more special even if it does add a little more stress! We are heading to Colorado next week for our four year wedding anniversary with our 10 month old and i can’t wait. Also – love her shoes! I have been debating whether to get my son a pair and i think i’m going to do it now! They are so cute!
I totally agree. Vacation is a whole new ballgame of special these days. We LOVE the Native shoes. They’re easy to put on and take off and easy to clean too!
She’s so cute! I love the matching outfits.
