Life Lately: Volume 54

I don’t even know how to start writing today. Like every mother, every American, I am heartbroken, completely gutted, and somehow both hysterical and numb inside. On Tuesday morning I took Amalia to her Kindergarten orientation to visit classrooms, meet her teachers, and get a feel for the school. A few hours later I read the news and it completely destroyed me. I’ve been on and off crying all week and I know I’m not the only one.

The thought of these beautiful innocent children and brave educators losing their lives is more than anyone can handle. I cannot even begin to imagine what their families are going through. It’s horrific and made so much worse by the fact that the leaders of this country won’t take action to create stricter laws around guns.

It feels hopeless but there are things you can do, please you can donate, senators you can call, and votes to be cast in the fall.

Where to donate

Everytown for Gun Safety: Everytown advocates for gun control and against gun violence. This non-profit was created in 2013 when Mayors Against Illegal Guns and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America joined forces.

Protect Our Schools: Students, parents, educators, and community advocates join together to take action on gun violence in schools.

Giffords PAC: An organization dedicated to saving lives from gun violence, led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.

Robb Elementary Memorial Fund: An account has been opened at First State Bank of Uvalde for the families of Robb Elementary. If you would like to donate, you can do so at any FSB branch.

What you can do

Call your senator and demand action. This list includes every phone number.

Vote. When the time comes, vote out anyone who supports and is supported by the NRA. Anyone who hasn’t tried to take action against this senseless violence.
