Last month I did my first Q&A post, and you guys seemed to like it so I’m going to make it a monthly thing! I’m taking the most commonly asked questions that I get on Snapchat and via email, and compiling them into these posts.
Feel free to shoot me an email or comment below if you have questions for next month’s post. So excited to be getting more personal with you. Have a great weekend!
What are your favorite restaurants in Stamford?
While we live in and love Stamford, we usually drive to nearby towns to eat, because there are so many great restaurants nearby. In Stamford, we love Bartaco and Fortina, and Lakeside Diner (not healthy at all) is a hidden gem for breakfast, and has incredible apple cider donuts. In Greenwich, I’m obsessed with The Granola Bar for breakfast, lunch, and smoothies, and love The National, and Le Fat Poodle for dinner. In Westport, our favorite restaurant is The Whelk, and we try to eat there at least once a month. In South Norwalk, Mecha Noodle Bar is my jam. On a cold night, it’s everything. In New Canaan, Baldanza is a favorite for lunch, and we like Locali and Tequila Mockingbird for dinner. Green & Tonic is my favorite juice/smoothie place and they have locations in all the towns. Sorry, that was a lot!
I have a job interview. Any tips for how to impress the employer?
A few tips I always give for job interviews are: Make eye contact with everyone interviewing you if there is more than one person in the room. Have a solid handshake and make eye contact then as well. First impressions are everything! Try not to have a nervous laugh (you’d be surprised how many people do this!) and be confident when you speak. As soon as you leave, write a thank you note and pop it in the mail that day. It will show that you’re both thoughtful and efficient when they receive it. In addition to the note, follow up within two hours on email, thanking the interviewers for their time. Lastly, do your research! Come prepared with 3-4 questions about the company or how it works day to day. It will show that you’re thorough.
What supplements do you take?
Oh man, that is quite a list. I take a prenatal everyday as well as grass-fed beef liver pills (because I don’t eat enough meat), cod liver oil, probiotics, and vitamin D. Although not supplements, I’ll also share that I drink bone broth and kombucha daily. I take a most of these for fertility and to boost my immune system. One of my husband’s clients is a supplement specialist so he and my acupuncturist and I have come up with this mix. It works for me, but probably isn’t exactly what you might take so consult a health care practitioner, of course.
What are your favorite New England weekend getaways?
I love a weekend in Newport, especially in the fall. It’s a lot less crowded, and the weather is gorgeous! There’s nothing like bundling up for an adventure on the Cliff Walk. Anel and I also recently spent a weekend in Madison, CT and loved it there. It might be more of a summer destination but I’d go back in the fall for sure.
Any must-haves for fall?
So many must-haves for fall… where do I start? A great blazer is probably at the top of my list. I love this one which is a fraction of the price of J.Crew’s original Schoolboy Blazer. You need a good transition jacket and this one has been my favorite for four years now! Also the perfect pair of jeans to pair with both flats and riding boots (also a must). This is hands down my favorite pair of jeans. A blanket scarf will never let you down and a faux fur vest is always a good idea. This one might sound random but I live in my Patagonia Better Sweater in the fall and winter. See more of my fall staples here.
What’s in your shower?
Weirdly I get this question a lot, which is why I wrote this post about every product I use from morning to night. It includes shower stuff!
You talk about your anxiety a lot. Any tips on keeping it under control?
It’s hard to answer this because I’m not a doctor or shrink so please, take this with a grain of salt. While I have been on medication in the past, I am now in a place where I can manage my anxiety using some tricks I’ve learned along the way. You can read them here. I also love Kava tea for those days when you really just need to calm down and nothing seems to work.
What are your go-to recipes for weeknight dinners?
I like to change it up every week so I don’t get sick of the same thing over and over. I also cook seasonally so will give you a few options from my fall repertoire given the time of year. I make a version of this dairy-free Caesar salad every week or two. Sometimes I’ll add chicken, salmon, or shrimp for a full meal. In the colder months, I also love to roast onions, sweet potato, carrots, shallots, squash, and garlic as a side and will often pair that with roasted chicken breasts. The crock pot is my best friend starting around now and my turkey chili will knock your socks off… I promise! And when I’m really crunched for time, I do a lot of stir fries with “riced” cauliflower. Check out my three-day food diary here for more recipe ideas.
Do you ever run out of new content ideas?
I don’t know how this is possible, but no! I try to post two outfits per week so that’s pretty much set in stone, then I’ll do a home decor, lifestyle, or recipe post in between and after those. I usually just write about what is going on in my life or what I’m loving at the moment so it works out. I also take a lot of cues for you! Readers will email or Snapchat me ideas for posts, and I’ve come up with some of my all time favorites that way.
How do you edit your photos?
Last month, I talked about our camera and lens and this post goes over my photography practices in general, but here are some photo editing tips. For camera photos, I use Lightroom and Photoshop. I’ve always been a Photoshop gal in the past because that was all I knew how to use, but I’m teaching myself Lightroom now because it’s so much easier for editing.
For the pics that I take on my iPhone, I use Snapseed, a free Google app that is basically a photoshop on your phone. It’s amazing because not only can you brighten, saturate, etc, but you can select certain colors and just boost them! All the bloggerz use it, trust.
Yes to Mecha Noodle Bar!!!!
Also, we should do a Lightroom class together… I need to get better!
Yes! Let’s do it!
Really love the Q & A idea. I have a awful nervous laugh in Job interviews, it is something I need to work on.
Love your Q&A posts and snapchats!
Question about bone broth – do you make your own or buy it? I’ve wanted to add this to my routine but don’t know where to start.
Good question! I usually buy it but when it gets into the dead of winter, I start to make it. It’s almost therapeutic. I’ll post my recipe before the end of the year!
Love Q & A’s I feel like they really allow you to get to know the person! I love your advice about job interviews, I totally do the nervous laugh!

Thank you so much! And yeah that nervous laugh can be rough. I get it sometimes too and have to stop myself.
Hi Julia! Your new frame with the shirt is just adorable. I am a big breton top girl (stripey tops) so this is really something I would love to have at home too. Always love reading your recommendations and trying out things I had never thought before. As a mum 3 little ones, I’m now considering doing a little bit more to be strong this winter and your advice about vitamins really interested me. Thanks for this post. Julie xx
So glad that you liked the post (and the print!). And good luck with your vitamin regimen!
I love the question on running out of content ideas because recently I honestly have. It was the biggest sign that it was time to step away from the blog & focus on my family/job (good thing the blog was more on the hobby side!).
I love your answer because it shows how passionate you are about what you do, versus me who really feels like my life is going in a new direction right now.
It’s amazing that you were able to see that you needed to step away. Good for you!
I’m sure you’ve been here but if you’re looking for great Mexican food that incorporates fresh local and organic ingredients, we love Bodega in Darien!
You’re like the 5th person to tell me that. I need to check it out! Next up on my list 🙂
Do you make your own bone broth? If so, will you share the recipe and if not can you share what your favorite is?
I do make it in the winter and am going to share my recipe in the next month or so!
