We spend more time outside in the summer and less time on the couch, but there are still summer rainstorms and hot, lazy weeknights where all we want to do is watch TV in the AC. Here are my binge-worthy picks of great TV shows to binge this summer!
Schitt’s Creek (Netflix): It’s safe to say that Schitt’s Creek is one of my all-time favorite TV comedies of all time. It’s right up there with Arrested Development because the characters are amazingly weird and the running jokes make you feel like you’re part of the gang. It takes a few episodes to get into but I promise that you’ll quickly understand the hype for this cult-favorite. #ewdavid
Dead to Me (Netflix): I crushed the entire first season of Dead to Me in a week. Every episode ends with a new surprise and I love that there are two strong and funny female leads. I highly recommend it for a dark and twisty mystery that’s also quite comical.
Catastrophe (Amazon Prime): For some reason, not a lot of people have heard of this show but it’s brilliant. The relationship between the main characters is one of my favorite TV relationships ever. It gets dark in the last two seasons but manages to bring the laughs while dealing with difficult topics.
YOU (Netflix): It’s creepy, it’s addictive, and you won’t be able to turn away. If you still haven’t jumped on the YOU train, get going. And be prepared to be very disturbed. You might even shut down your social media for a while when you finish.
Silicon Valley (HBO): Although there are apparently no new episodes until 2020, you can still binge-watch older ones. I laugh out loud during every single episode. The deadpan humor is right up my alley. Anel says he loves to watch me watch this show because I laugh so hard.
Big Little Lies (HBO): As I started writing this list, I realized I haven’t started season two and now I know what I’ll be doing tonight. I can’t wait to see what Meryl does for a show I already love.
Killing Eve (Hulu): If you’re fascinated by sociopaths like I am, watch this immediately. We started it after Sandra Oh won the Emmy, and I fully understand why she did. It’s a little weird, not gonna lie, but it’s definitely entertaining.
Orange is the New Black (Netflix): Season 7, the final season, is coming back on July 26th and I’m so excited to see what happens with Piper now that she’s out. The trailer looks great, and I really hope they finish the series as strong as they started it. I know it went downhill for a while there, but I’ve always been a big fan of OITNB.
The Handmaid’s Tale (Hulu): I can’t not include this on my list. Anel thinks my obsession with the show is weird because I have to have full silence and focus for each episode and sometimes want to watch them twice. The end of last season was disappointing but I’m fully into everything they’re doing this season.
Queer Eye (Netflix): I need to catch up on the latest season. Every episode makes me laugh and every episode makes me cry. If you want a feel-good show that gives you hope in humanity, this is it!
Grace & Frankie (Netflix): It’s uplifting, it’s funny, and even though there isn’t a new season out right now, it’s worth it to go back and binge the last three.
Next on my list is Younger because anytime I talk about what I’m watching, so many people recommend it. I am finally going to start it this summer.
If you’ve already watched all of these, check out my list from last year.
Completely agree about Schitt’s Creek! It quickly became my favorite comedy of all-time. I love the characters…especially Moira! I’m going to be so sad when it ends.
Moira and David are the best best best! So sad the next season is the last.
So many good ones and some I need to start, thanks for the recs! Nothing will ever top Schitt’s Creek but Younger is so so good, I hope you love it!
I can’t wait to watch it. I need something new and fabulous.
LOVE love LOVE the dress — can you please share where to find it?
Yes! It’s one half of a mommy and me look from Masala Baby: https://www.masalababy.com/Sundress-Jiya-Blue-p/wdr0007.htm
Love this list. So many I need to check out. I’m obsessed with younger. If you like younger you’ll like the bold type too. Another fun lighthearted series
Nice! Adding to my list, thanks!
Great list- we have similar tv taste, so I’d also suggest you check out Fleabag if you haven’t already- season 1 was quirky and great, and season 2 was even better! Love the dress you’re wearing in this blog post pic – could you please share where it’s from? Thanks!
Never even heard of it! Will check it out. The dress is here:

Fleabag is one of the best tv shows I’ve ever seen–the first season is great but the second season is phenomenal!
Fleabag was hilarious. Gotta love british humor
Yes, please please watch Younger!!! It is fantastic, and I am Sutton Foster’s biggest fan lol!! (she is the lead in the show, and a SUPER talented singer/dancer/actor!)
xx Libby
Can’t wait to watch!!
So many of these I have watched and love to!! Catastrophe was laugh out loud funny!! Try Broadchurch…so good. Some of my other faves are True Detective (season 1), The Sinner (season 1). Didn’t like the second season of these two but first season was good.
Happy Watching!!
P.S. My husband love Barry but I haven’t started that yet.
Oh my sister loves that too! I will try it. LOVE Sinner and TD season 1 and also didn’t like season 2. Sounds like we have the same TV taste. My husband loves Barry but I can’t get into it.
Everyone loves Younger and I was super excited to watch it. I love Hilary Duff, there is nobody better looking than Peter Hermann and I love rom-coms but it was a big miss for me. I cringed my way through the first episode with so much second hand embarrassment from all the lying that I couldn’t watch any further.
Oh no! Maybe keep trying?? I’ll let you know what I think.
I love your posts and blog. You are VERY relatable and fun to watch. Your sweet little family reminds me of mine many years ago. Thank you for posting realistic (dollar wise) items and showing real life ( my son has anxiety disorder) with a little. Happy summer!
PS I absolutely loved Dead to Me!
Thank you so much, Christy. That means a lot!!
Younger for sure! My husband and I just finished watching Parenthood on Netflix too! Great cast!
OMG Anel and I CRUSHED Parenthood about 4 years ago. So obsessed. In episode one, he was like, “The dad’s gonna die at the end.” He always knows!
I just crushed Lucifer on Netflix. I didn’t think it was going to be something I liked, but oh my gosh was it a great show. Netflix picked it up after Fox dropped it during season 3. There’s going to be one more season! SO GOOD!
Workin Moms deserves a spot on this list!
