How to Make the Perfect Donut Bun

You asked, I answer. I’ve received so many emails and Facebook messages asking me to give instructions on how to make the big ole’ bun I often wear piled on top of my head like in this post yesterday and this post last month. Well you’re in luck because today, I give you my step by step guide for how to make the perfect donut bun.

What you need:
– One bun donut. I got mine at H&M but I’ve seen them at many major drug stores too.
– A comb
– A mirror
– A little patience!

Step 1: Make a ponytail high up on your head. Smooth any stray pieces with a comb. Secure the pony tail with an elastic band.

Step 2: Take a donut and place it at the very tip of the pony tail.

Step 3: Over the donut, split your pony tail in two and start to wrap each section around the outside of the donut.

Step 4: Start spinning the donut towards your head, like your rolling up the sleeve of your shirt. The hair should get spun into the donut. This is the trickiest part and a lot can go wrong. Sometimes this takes me 3 or 4 tries to get it right but keep trying. The perfect bun is out there and you can achieve it!

Step 5: Take loose ends and secure them under the donut with bobby pins. I generally just fumble with the bun, covering the donut where needed until it looks pretty. I skip the bobby pin step but it depends on your hair.

Step 6: Look gorgeous, strut your stuff, and say goodbye to bad hair days!

You could always put the ponytail through the donut and put another hair tie around that, and secure the other pieces with bobby pins… That works pretty good and it’s easy!
