I didn’t think that getting out of the snow and sub-arctic temperatures for 2 and a half days could make that much of a difference but boy was I wrong. As I mentioned last week, I planned a last-minute mother-daughter trip to Marin County for the weekend and it was so much better than I could have imagined. My mom and I bonded, I slept well, ate well, spent a good amount of time outside, and finally exposed to my skin to some sunlight. Passers-by were blinded, I’m sure.
Friday:
2:00pm Arrive at SFO airport and breathe in the fresh air with no coat on. I could turn around and fly right back to JFK now and have gotten all that I need out of this trip.
3:00pm Stop at the Golden Gate bridge vista point to take in the view and watch tourists aggressively use their selfie sticks.
4:00pm Pop into the Marin County Mart to visit Pressed Juicery and pick up green juices for the weekend. I’m a freak about needing one nearby at all times.
6:30pm Slinging back oysters and sipping on chardonnay at Barrel House Tavern, overlooking the bay.
9:45pm: Passing out early, feeling relaxed, full, happy. . . and maybe a little tipsy.
Saturday:
7:30am: Up early, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, ready for the day of fun that we’ve planned.
9:30am: After green juice and bagels and lox, we arrived at Muir Woods National Park, ready to take in the beauty of the crazy-tall redwoods, and do some mild hiking.
11:30am: On our way to lunch, we pull over at the Muir Beach Overlook which is the most magical view. Think sparkling blue water as far as the eye can see.
1:00pm: We pick up salmon po’ boys and kale caesar salads at The Lunch Box and picnic on Stinson Beach until the fog rolls in.
3:15pm: Meet up with Christine for a 2 hour photo shoot in Sausalito. I can’t wait to share the 3 outfits we shot over the next 2 weeks.
6:00pm: Take advantage of the free wine and cheese happy hour at our hotel, the charming Mill Valley Inn.
7:30pm: More oysters, pinot noir, and winter vegetable stew at Molina for dinner.
Sunday:
8:00am: Almond milk lattés at Equator Coffee & Teas.
10:30am: Meet up with my mom’s husband Rob at Lyfe Kitchen in Palo Alto for brunch fish tacos and cucumber mint water before I head out of town.
12:00pm: On our way to the airport, I see Cream and pull over to pick up a quick vegan mint chocolate chip ice cream for the road.
2:00pm: Take off on a flight from SFO-JFK where I’m currently writing this! Feeling relaxed but sad to be leaving.
So to recap, I ate a lot of food. . . Kidding but seriously the food was good but spending quality time with my mom in beautiful settings was such a blessing. Now it’s back to the grind and back to the snow. Only 10 days until Mexico!
Loved your recap — sounds like you really got the most out of your few days there!

Sounds like an ideal weekend out of the cold and with your mom. I love the San Fran area. My brother used to live in Monterrey so we used to go out there a lot to visit. The weather is ideal and the scenery is pretty amazing! Can’t wait to see your pics from Sausalito!

This place sure is good for the soul! Jealous of all your gorgeous pictures!
I visited San Francisco right after The Princess Diaries movie came out, my mom and I ran all over the city trying to find her firehouse loft!

Aww this sounds like such a nice relaxing trip. I need a little break from the weather too but sadly I think I’ll just have to hunker down til spring.

Taking time to relax really does matter. Even if its for 5-10 hours. Shut off those electronics even if you don’t have the time to and take a break….. Honestly if your health goes down the drain what do you really have and can you really get anything accomplished. Keeping warm colors in perspective really does help. It triggers something in your mind that makes you “happy” and gives you a little pick me up. This winter, as we all know, has been brutal but if you take a few tips to get well rested and keep your hobbies in perspective you will make it through. I posted a few ways I get through it on my own blog because I was getting a lot of questions from viewers on how to do so.
Let me know in my comments what you think of my ideas! Lemonstripes is one of my favorite blogs. I think they give awesome advice and fun thoughts that are creative and different.
