Oh Monday… here you are again. Thank God for matcha, am I right? The end of last week and the weekend were a blur of catching up after my trip to LA. Anel and I threw a housewarming party on Saturday and I was feeling insanely overwhelmed and anxious (about other things) so the thought of hosting and cooking for a bunch of people on a hot and humid day freaked me out a little. But we got everything done and the party ended up being really fun so I’m glad we had it!
I’ve talked about this before, but I’ve struggled with anxiety for as long as I can remember so when it rears it’s ugly head for (seemingly) no reason (although there is always a reason if you look a little closer), I can now recognize it and try to take steps to fix it. You can read read about my six steps for battling anxiety here. I wrote that post before we got Boots, but if I wrote it today, I would add a 7th tip about snuggling with your pet. Does wonders for my mental state.
However sometimes those steps don’t fully work and I just have to ride it out. It took a full three days, but this morning I woke up feeling more like myself again, and I’m excited to get my mind and body back on track this week with workouts, healthy meals, and some QT with my little brother Jackson who is visiting this week (you definitely don’t want to miss his cuteness on Snapchat).
Sorry for that ramble, let’s move on to this outfit and the location where Valorie and I took these photos, Intelligentsia, which is one of my favorite coffee shops ever. I hate how places like Starbucks use over-sweetened, almost sickly matcha for their lattes and drinks. Intelligentsia keeps it simple and frill-free. Matcha powder and water… That’s it. If you’re not used to the flavor, it can be intense but it’s perfect, IMO. We took a little break from a long shoot day there so I could caffeinate, and we ended up using it as a backdrop for these shots.
I feel like I could never pull off this cropped off-shoulder top at home but for some reason it felt appropriate in Venice. I love it with the stripes but next time would wear it with high-waisted white jeans or a flowy skirt (this outfit was unplanned for the shoot as you can probably tell by my lovely little tan lines #awk). Speaking of off-shoulder shirts, how cute is this striped one I just found on Amazon for literally $6?
PS don’t forget it’s Monday which means time for Snapchat Q&A! Snap or tweet me your questions and I’ll answer them tonight.

Definitely not rambling at all! My anxiety has been out in full force for the past week and a half as we gear up for a big move, and my sleep schedule has been the absolute worst (which only heightens the anxiety!)…here’s to a fresh week full of mental clarity! I’ve never had matcha, but it looks refreshing 🙂
26 and Not Counting
Thank you for sharing about your anxiety. I am 31 years old and never dealt with anxiety until just recently. To know that I am not alone and can relate being that we’re around the same age is like a breath of fresh air. Thank you so much again for being open about battling anxiety.
You’re definitely not alone. Anxiety can feel really heavy and scary so I hope my tips helped!
This outfit is so cute, Julia! I love the mix of the off the shoulder and your striped shorts!
xoxo,
Katie
