Seemingly all the bloggers out there have the now-iconic Gucci belt. And after I got one as a birthday gift this month, I’m joining the ranks.
I might be a year or two too late to be on-trend but this investment piece is something that will never go out of style, in my opinion. I personally love it because it is a beautiful, well-made accessory that elevates pretty much any look. It’s something that I will have for the rest of my life and I love that.
Gucci Belt Sizing
First, you have to decide if you want to wear it around your waist like I do, or around your hips with jeans. I chose a smaller size so that I could pair it with dresses higher-waisted jeans and shorts. It comes with 5 holes (an inch apart) so I can move it up and down pretty far too which is nice. It is such a big investment, and I’m glad I’m able to wear it in multiple ways.
The sizing system is a little bit confusing when you first see it but it’s actually a really simple measurement. The size is the number of centimeters from the edge of the buckle to the middle belt hole. So you could physically measure yourself with measuring tape or use the guide on the Gucci site which is what I did and it was accurate.
I chose 75 cm and I wear it on the tightest hole at my waist and the loosest hold at my hips. My jean size is 26 for reference. I would have probably gotten a size 80cm if I wanted to wear it more often around my hips because it’s pretty tight with my non-high-waisted jeans.
I also love the thin version which is a little more understated and a lot more elegant. It follows the same sizing rules.
Where to buy a Gucci Belt
You could 100% buy one second-hand on a site like Poshmark or The Real Real, but 1. They’re only about $30 cheaper based on what I’m seeing and 2. I’d be careful if you do that because this piece is pretty easy to fake and spending $400 on a fake belt that will probably fall apart is not a good look. I recommend buying it directly from the Gucci website (if they’re in stock, they sell out a lot) because they have free shipping and include a free return label if you don’t like it for any reason. They also sell most of the sizes and colors at Nordstrom online.
Alternatives to the Gucci Belt
If you love the look but not the price tag, check out some of these very classic alternatives at a few price-points. My only tip for belt shopping is to buy something that doesn’t look too trendy so that you can wear it for years to come. All of these fit the bill.
J.Mclaughlin Ruby Belt, $98: I have this belt in camel and love it because it’s timeless and understated while adding a statement to your look. You can see me in it here and here. It comes in black, navy, and camel.
Madewell Medium Perfect Belt, $45: Talk about a classic. I just scooped up this puppy in camel in a larger size so I can wear it with jeans around my hips. It comes in black, camel, and cream.
Express Round Buckle Reversible Belt, $35: You can’t beat the price here and, like the Tory Burch option, it’s actually two belts in one.
