Out of all the new monthly series I promised in 2019, this is the last one to go live. I know that this particular outfit isn’t all that exciting, but that’s part of what makes it a good start for Rewear It 2019! It includes three classic pieces that I reach for time and time again. Three pieces that are well made, classic designs, and will last you for years. That is the kind of clothing we should all be buying and wearing.
I wish I had the self control to stick to a capsule collection, but I really like clothes and accessories so the best I can personally do is pare down and only buy something if I really really love it. And that works for me! And everything in this outfit I really really love.
I also really really love my decision to shoot outfits indoors this winter. It takes so much stress out of photo shoots slash hopefully I won’t get the plague this year because of it! And Boots always makes a cameo per the photo above. That boy can’t get enough of the limelight, I tell ya.
Random fun fact before I get into it: You can see a little brass bell hanging off of our doorbell speaker in the image below. Anel randomly put it up there when we moved into our house three years ago, and it’s lived there ever since. I got that bell from a monk in Thailand 10 years ago. It was supposed to bring good luck and good health to me and my family so I’ll never get rid of it… Although I think I could probably find a better place for it to live LOL.
Ok on to the details of the classic items of clothing that make up this simple and neutral look.
J.Crew Tissue-Weight Turtleneck: I’ve had this turtleneck tee for maybe 10 years… I have no idea exactly how long but it’s been a while. I used to wear it to the office under a shift dress when I worked at Condé Nast a hundred years ago. It’s my go-to shirt to pair with a skirt and tights in the winter because it keeps my neck warm but isn’t bulky. Lately, I’ve been wearing it with jeans and a belt, inspired by RHOBH Yolanda Foster of course. Aka Gigi Hadid’s mom if you don’t watch the show.
I wore it on the blog last week with a green pleated skirt this post and here.
J.McLaughlin Belt c/o: I would love an Hermes or Gucci belt, but this one is a great alternative that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. J.McLaughlin makes really great quality leather goods, including this belt with a cool bamboo style gold buckle. It elevates a pair of jeans or you could wear it cinched around your waist with a dress.
I wore it last in this photo, but I think it looks a lot better with a shirt tucked all the way around!
White Jeans: I’ve had these jeans for over five years. I’m not 100% sure if the ones on the site are exactly the same since I refuse to buy a new pair, but I love mine! And I know people are torn on wearing white jeans in the winter but I’m here for it! Why not? I get sick of wearing only my dark pairs all the time.
I’ve worn them 8 million times including in a shop my closet post and here.

I love the bamboo detailing on the belt, it looks so cool! And you have such a beautiful house, I love seeing it in your indoor photo shoots!

Thanks Allie! It’s so much more fun to shoot inside in the winter.
I have that turtleneck in the striped version, and where it all the time!! It is so comfy, but looks so nice, and puts together an outfit! I also love layering with things like dresses, sweaters, and under blazers!! Love this series, and I am so excited!!

I just got the striped one from J.Crew Factory and love it too! I love how thin it is for layering.
I am so excited for this series! Love the pop of leopard with the shoes! Can’t wait to read more of these!
Thanks Emily! I’m so glad you’re liking the series so far 🙂
Nothing wrong with a classic outfit, Julia! I love this look and that these are all pieces that most of us probably have in our own closets. Also YAS to shooting indoors this winter. I feel ya, girl!
